About me

ABOUT ME

Hello,

My name is Cherie Harper; I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and an advocate for those who may suffer from a mental illness or have experienced a mental health crisis. With expert knowledge and 21 years of experience, my goal has always been to help erase the stigma that shadows around those who may suffer of a mental illness. My experience includes in-patient settings, community mental health, crisis residential, individual and couple’s counseling. I have a wide range of experience working with adults, older adults and Transitional Age youth. Growing up I witnessed close family members and friends who suffered from a mental illness have difficulty receiving the help they so desperately needed. This has not only motivated me but has inspired me to advocate at the forefront for all those who are underserved and disadvantaged.

I use a person centered, recovery, and integrative approach in treatment, I believe in meeting a person where they are at in life. My approach is different in that I believe that a person can recover from mental illness and learn to manage their lives fully and recognize when they are experiencing a mental health crisis. I use evidenced base techniques including Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness.

Most of the time I don’t take myself seriously, I know that I have flaws and have learned to live with them and appreciate some of my flaws. My approach is warm, friendly and empathetic, I am ready to take on complicated issue’s and assist you to tackle your struggles head on. If you are looking for a counselor who will listen, provide honest feedback and guide you to a better you than I am the counselor for you.

Cherie makes me feel validated in my experiences and deepest traumas. Working through with it, I felt like I was guided through the process, but am also able to do so independently because of all the resources she had provided me. I am still healing, but a lot of my progress was thanks to her. Thank you

She’s wonderful. She listens to and respects my thoughts and feelings. I highly recommend her for all who are interested!

I've been seeing Cherie for about 6 months. She has helped me through one of the most painful and stressful times in my life. I don't think I would have been able to feel so resilient without her. Thank you Cherie!!

I am so thankful that I was matched with Cherie. As someone who had never been to therapy before, I was really nervous to open up to someone new. Cherie listens and takes inventory of my anxieties and concerns. She always offers thoughtful, valuable, and practical feedback. Because of her I have started recommending BetterHelp to anyone who asks!

I went to Cherie at the beginning of a very confusing, hurtful, and incredibly challenging journey of healing and growth. I have never gone through therapy, so you can imagine how terrifying it is to find a therapist that i'd feel comfortable to share my most vulnerable thoughts and feelings.

From the get-go, she has been more than supportive, understanding, and kind. She has a warm presence (despite being over video call) and has always made me feel like i was seen/understood.

I felt safe to talk to her.

She brought light into certain situations that i overlooked; she asked really great and thought provoking questions to have me reflect ; and she never pressured or forced me to make certain decisions.
She is a great therapist that allowed me to process and decide things for myself.

what i also appreciated is how responsive she was when i had sent her my journal entries or when i send her messages.
Mind you, i don't expect her to reply back to me, as i know she also has other clients and her own life to live! But she responds to my journal entries/messages whenever she can (usually the day of or the day after).
It just goes to show how she genuinely cares and how she receptive she is to what i need to say.

To feel heard, seen and understood is always something that i get out of my sessions.

Thanks Cherie :)
