Christi DeFrancesco

About Me

My name is Christi DeFrancesco, and I have been practicing for over 11 years as a licensed clinical social worker in Virginia. My therapeutic background began 17 years ago working in an inpatient hospital serving those in crisis. Since then, I have served as a therapist in an inpatient setting serving both youth and adults with chronic mental illness, self harm, suicidal thoughts, and those who have experienced trauma.

I believe that everyone needs a safe space to come, let their guard down, and talk about their challenges and successes without judgment. Serving others is my calling and my practice affords me the opportunity to do that. My goal is not to fix your problems, my goal is to help you understand how and why you may be feeling things so intensely. Our work will be collaborative. I will ask challenging questions and you may sometimes be frustrated. Therapy is not a straight and narrow path, but it is rich and full of self discovery and reward. As we work through these intense emotions and processes, you will find that you are better able to manage stress, feelings of discomfort, and enjoy life pleasures more.

My counselor is supportive and works with me about my concerns. She uplifts me and praises me when she sees improvement. She encourages me in the rough patches. She makes me think about certain aspects of my life and analyzes those situations and describes new information I never knew about

I've been working with Christi for 4 weeks and it's been amazing. She is compassionate and empathetic, yet challenges me at the same time. She is exactly what I was looking for in a therapist and I'm grateful for the time she takes with me every week. The "homework" helps me reflect differently and gives me a much better thought process. Our conversations help me to feel validated with what I've struggled with and the ability to change my perspective to further help myself.
