About me

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with several years of experience working in clinical psychology settings, ranging from an inpatient psychiatric hospital to a women's residential substance use disorder treatment program. I have worked with toddlers, children, adolescents, adults, military, and geriatric populations in individual therapy, personality testing, and neurocognitive assessments. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, substance use, addiction, trauma, eating disorders, social anxiety, mood disorders, and psychosis. I am also interested in working with individuals with traumatic brain injury, mild/moderate cognitive impairment, autistic spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, and their caregivers.

My counseling style is authentic, integrative, holistic, supportive, genuine, kind, compassionate, perceptive, and curious. My approach combines humanistic, existential, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral counseling. I am focused on the here and now and I want to know what is important to you and how we can move you towards your mental wellness goals. I utilize evidence-based therapies, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical-behavioral therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. I am an expert in psychotherapy, you are an expert in yourself, and I believe you already have many of the answers inside of you. Your treatment plan will be individualized and tailored to fit your specific needs. I have been passionate about mental health for many years and my purpose is to support you in creating your ideal life.

I’ve only worked with Dr. Wafer for a short time, but she has already been so helpful. She’s kind, gentle, and still straightforward. She challenges me to think about my situation from a different perspective, and also be able to express what I am feeling in the moment. I’m so grateful for everything she has helped me with!

So far Dr. Wafer is a very caring human being, and she listens to what I have to say without judging. Her views are rather philosophical and that's a good thing. The best part is that she offers homework. I hope to stay with her for as long as I can.

Dr. Dawn has been amazing in my experience. She is very patient with me and my schedule for doing things. She gets to the point quickly and so respectfully! I’ve never felt pressured to explain myself further with her and she has supported my wishes and encouraged me to reach a new understanding of myself. Her suggestions are super helpful and relevant to whatever the problem is. I have a lot of respect for how dedicated and helpful she has been.

I have been with Dr Dawn for a month now and she’s been great so far! She is timely, caring, listens to what I have to say with patience and understanding, asks me some pretty tough questions, is insightful and makes me think about things I never considered about. I really appreciate her and look forward to more sessions with her. I feel very lucky to have Dr Dawn helping me.

After a long search to find a therapist I connected with, I was on my last legs. Finding Dr.Dawn was such a relief! She makes you feel like she is a friend-but one who is impartial, listens, and is an expert.
