About Me
Hi there! My name is Claudia Smithart, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas. I have a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, which followed my graduation in Psychology and Sociology undergraduate, where I graduated Suma Cum Laude with Highest Honors. Psychology/Counseling is my passion, and I have worked in a Metacognition psychology lab, and interned early in my education working in a psychology and counseling clinic.
Since then, I have worked with children, teens, and adults with an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis, as well as Intellectual Disability. I worked in-home for a while, then moved to working with small children providing Applied Behavioral Analysis Therapy in a center-based environment. I also did a lot of internship hours working in a community college setting. Here, I really worked with populations 18+, across the lifespan, with a variety of presenting problems, such as LGBTQ+ related-issues, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideations, Bipolar Disorder, and everything in between. I feel this latter experience truly prepared me as a therapist to help people with anything they may need help with, because you never know what someone is going through and limiting myself to only certain presenting problems would be a disservice to the counseling profession.
I work from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach, which basically means that I believe in challenging our cognitive distortions, or "stinkin' thinkin'" as an old supervisor of mine referred to it as. Our maladaptive thinking patterns can affect our behaviors, beliefs, and even our actions. Breaking these down and unpacking our assumptions and thoughts can be very therapeutic, and where we will spend most of our time in therapy, as well as building coping skills, and building a new way of thinking and viewing the world.
I also use a Person-Centered approach, which means that I view my clients with an unconditional positive regard. How can I help if I come in with preconceived ideas about a person? Your values, beliefs, and experiences matter, and my non-judgmental approach is an absolute necessity to help you on your journey.
If all of this sounds like something you could use in your life, I encourage you to make an appointment with me. Let's work together to get your power back from your depression, anxiety, traumas, thoughts, and anything else you have given the reins of your life over to slowly over the years.
I offer daytime and some evenings hours Monday-Friday. Please note I do not offer any session availability on weekends. If this schedule seems to work well with you, I look forward to meeting you!
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate”

Claudia is amazing. Listens very well and very caring. She can listen to me go on and on about my stressors but brings up the point that I often miss, how am I feeling about it? Super helpful!
She is a good listener and professional therapist.
Excellent. Cludia was a great help!
Amazing I love it
I really like my therapist Claudia she really listens to my problems and helps me deal with things and very easy to talk to
Claudia is a wonderful therapist. With her, I feel listened to and understood. She makes me feel human. She listens without judging. She is knowledgeable and kind. I am so thankful for all her support.
Claudia is the most amazing professional I've had the pleasure of knowing in my ENTIRE life. She is an absolute godsend. I cannot tell people enough about her and the amazing experience I've had using betterhelp's services. This is a legit review. I had very serious issues I can't address with any of my peers. From the first visit I knew I had made the right choice and my money was more than well spent. She was able to accommodate my schedule and is extremely responsive. I feel like I'm talking with someone I've always known. Honestly, I feel amazing, incredible even after every session. Thank you, Claudia and Betterhelp.
Claudia has been a great help. She listens intently. She challenges my thoughts and continues to encourage growth. She has been the best therapist I’ve had the chance to see.
I love claudia, she was my old therapist back when she worked at a college. I have tried others but no one is her! Lol she’s awesome and definitely knows what she’s talking about and has helped me grow as a person in so many ways.
I’ve had experience with therapists before, and Claudia is the best I’ve had. She listens, makes you feel comfortable, and establishes great a great patient-therapist relationship!
I have had a few therapist in my time, but Claudia by far is the best!!! She speaks to me in a way my brain understands. She helps me to better focus and makes me feel understood.
I believe Claudia, is extremely understanding and insightful, in the short time Ive had with her Ive learned a great deal.
She is perfect t for me. Please don’t take her away lol
Ii think the more time we talk I feel you will help me work through my issuse
so far I just started but she is already helping me hear what I needed to hear! she is great!
I've only had 2 video sessions with Claudia and she is incredibly sweet, attentive, and knowledgeable. I used to dread doing my therapy elsewhere and it never felt good afterwards, but I actually look forward to having more sessions with Claudia. I hope I will be able to learn & grow more as I continue this journey. Thank you!
She’s awesome! Had great advice too
As someone who has never had counseling before, I was a little nervous about how the session would go—but my counselor made me feel completely validated and comfortable and listened to my concerns while also sharing useful info. Can’t wait to see what future sessions brings!
