About Me
Hi. My name is Cora Adams Strickland I’m a licensed clinical mental health counselor for the state of North Carolina. Currently, I own a private mental health practice in Burlington, NC where I provide individual and family therapy for children and adults. I have has been in private practice for over 15 years.
The theoretical approach(s) that I use is Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing. I assist people with understanding the connection between their thoughts, their feelings, and their actions. I use some of the following interventions to assist persons with making change:
• Cognitive restructuring and behavioral activation.
• Investigating thoughts.
• Identifying cognitive distortions.
• Acceptance Exercises.

I received my Undergraduate degree from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina and my Master’s degree from North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina.

Cora listens so attentively and I really respect her straightforward approach to counselling. She will never interrupt you when you’re talking even if you are going on for 5 minutes straight. Her approach might not work for everyone but it definitely works for me. She can take my thoughts and feelings and fit them into pieces to explain why I am a certain way and how it is affecting me. I’m looking forward to feeling and coping better with her support.
I only started working with Cora for couple of weeks but I could say that she is a very warm person. She listens to me without any prejudices. Cora has been a great help in addressing my concerns. She has provided good responses when I have questions or need help on a day to day basis. She has provided me some worksheets to help me control my anxiety and depressive thoughts and has checked in when I haven't been able to do sessions. She has been a great counselor so far and I have already made good progress.

Cora is the best! She is so kind and open. She listens and gives me awesome worksheets to help me learn new behaviours which are very helpful. She doesn’t make me feel awkward and I feel heard and validated.
