Hello! My name is Courtney Tallman and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington State and have been practicing since 2003, since graduating with a Master’s degree from the University of West Georgia. I have 16 years of experience working in the behavioral health field in a variety of settings including community mental health, hospital systems, insurance, and private practice. I have worked with multiple populations including children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. My specialties include stress and anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship issues, trauma, parenting and family issues, addiction issues, and more.
My basic theoretical orientation includes a Person-Centered approach to therapy, creating an open non-judgmental space to empower and motivate you to realize your potential and make the changes that you are here to make. I believe that the collaborative therapeutic relationship between patient and therapist is the primary vehicle for healing. I utilize treatment techniques and theory from a variety of modalities including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and other evidenced based practices to guide you in establishing new coping skills and developing increased awareness about yourself and relationships with others.
I enjoy helping people through challenging situations. Part of my job is to help you identify what is working well and what is not working so well. Together we will come up with recommendations that seem doable to help you reach your goals. I appreciate the opportunity to guide you on this journey of self-discovery and healing.

Courtney is very attentive and engaging. She pings me often without making me feel like I have to respond but I do because of how she approaches conversations. She is able to open me up and encourages me to discuss difficult things, which is why I'm here.
Courtney has been very helpful in the short time I’ve been working with her. She gently reminds me that she is here for me and willing to talk anytime. It’s not instant, but she always responds quickly and lets me know that my silence is okay. The reassurance that I’m not ‘doing therapy wrong’ is really amazing to have. I’m looking forward to seeing working with her more.

I was hesitant when I first started using BetterHelp, but Courtney made it so easy for me to open up to. I’ve only been talking to her for 2.5 months and she’s the only therapist I’ve ever had, but I am so so lucky to have gotten her!! She’s amazing, really good listener, and she’s very attentive to the way I speak. Which I think is wonderful because I have learned more about myself and my healing process because of this. Courtney really tries to listen and give good feedback as well as other materials that could possibly help with what I currently have going on. Sadly I wish my insurance would grant more than a half hour talk session.

Courtney is the opposite of what I expected from an online counseling service. She is warm, understanding and close. She responds quickly and has a good balance of listening and recommending worksheets to grow.

Courtney has helped me so much. I was in a pretty bad spot when I reached out to her, I wasn't eating or sleeping. She was able to help me identify the problem and gave me the tools I needed to get out of that dark place. I am so happy that she was chosen for me. I feel so much better. We still meet to go through my day and how I got to that place to begin with. I can't explain how thankful I am for her.

She has been very supportive offering good insight and asking questions to make sure she understands what I’m getting at. Her recaps of our session have been helpful as well as the exercises she has sent and articles with tips on general well being. It has been helpful to have a listening ear and get her perspective and wisdom in handling some tough situations going on in my life.
Courtney always makes me feel better. I usually message her when I'm not having a good day (so she really see's the worst side of me) and she is always kind, helpful and patient. It's nice to have a resource to reach out to who I know will help me mentally. Really appreciate Courtney.
Courtney was a fantastic counselor to work with! I always felt safe and comfortable during our sessions, and she was able to challenge me in a good way in terms of evaluating my own thoughts and actions. She was very encouraging and positive, and responsive to my messages outside of our sessions. I have made lots of progress internally since seeing her.

I'm happy that I was matched with Courtney; she is wonderful and makes me feel supported comfortable. She definitely cares and that shows during our sessions: she gives me her undivided attention and lets me talk, or when she brings up things that were said/happened a week or two ago. She also replies regularly, I do wish that the (30 min) sessions were longer and were easier to book at least weekly. I feel that the 30 min. is not enough, but I really like Courtney, so I will continue working with her.
Courtney is great! Most attentive therapist I have ever had! She is really good at reflecting back statements I make and asking really good investigative questions to help me in exploring my inner world and what is going on with me internally.
The only thing is that it is hard to get enough sessions in with her as they are booked way out and each one only provides a half hour of time :/
Courtney is wonderful. She truly listens and lets me vent through the struggles I am going through daily and in life. She walks me through how to navigate them and also that she believes I am a strong and resilient person. She is an amazing counselor and am glad I was matched with her to counsel me.
