About me

I am Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Oregon with over four years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, coping with addictions, trauma and abuse, mood disorders, PTSD, psychotic disorders, and developmental disorders. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey.

My approach is two-fold with the first goal being to create a relationship that is respectful, empathetic, and professional. It is impossible for someone to open up to someone without building a relationship based on trust, honesty, and open communication. The next goal is to examine to need for change and what that may actually look like for you. Often individuals and couples want to create change in their lives but are not willing to give up those things that are preventing change, and overcoming that resistance and barriers to prevent the desired change from occurring.

I always utilize a Person-Centered approach with all my client’s regardless of personal background, as everyone’s experience is unique to themselves, and utilize listening to understand rather than listening to reply, understanding with empathy and unconditional positive regard, while also staying true to whom I am as a counselor and professional in helping the client. I also will always evaluate motivation for change, barriers to change, and work with clients to overcome those barriers, even if the barrier is the client themselves. This is called Motivational Interviewing, and is important to ensure that the client is willing to embrace change, create a plan for change, take action steps, and maintain the gains.

The second phase requires exploration, and creating changes in thinking and behaviors that promotes healthier and more positive ways of interacting in the world to reach individual client goals and improve functioning. This is achieved through Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioral Therapies that increase awareness and mindfulness of the here and now, and how to problem-solve and make positive decisions and provides for best possible outcomes for yourselves and loved ones. When client have limited resources and lack time to go deeply into their problems, I utilize a brief solution focused style that utilizes mindfulness and staying focused on here and now issues rather than a deep drive into a client’s background. I also utilize, what is called existential therapy for individuals whom lack purpose or meaning in their own lives.

I believe that the client is the expert in their own lives, and I am there to help them return toward the path they wish to be on in life, and learn to experience the journey of life with the skills to avoid and cope with the tragedies and triumph we face on that journey. I look forward to getting to working with you and help you reach the goals that will get you back on your journey with confidence and resilience.

Dale worked with me for about 7 months. We worked on everything from confronting demons from my past to grief and loss. Dale always had very insightful perspectives that helped shed light on whatever subject we discussed. Never once did I feel ashamed or judged for my actions or lack there of. I will always appreciate the sense of self confidence Dale helped to instill. I will always be grateful to Dale.
