About Me

About Me:
Daniel Gunn, PGDip is a Psychotherapist. A registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), with 7 years of experience working in an agency setting including private practice. I work with adults aged 18-83 from distinct cultures and backgrounds. I am a supervisor and group facilitator in the same agency including private practice. I received my BSc in psychology from the Open University London in 2015 and a Diploma in Therapeutic counselling from CPCAB UK in 2017. My Postgraduate Diploma in Psychopathology Theory and Practice I received from CONFER UK in 2020.
How did I get here? As a teenager growing up in West Africa, I started observing people out of curiosity, which became my hobby. I am fortunate, my mother exposed me to spirituality and diversity around the same time, which has given me support in life during challenging times.
Previously, I had extensive background in customer service, security, health, and safety which are transferable skills to counselling and psychotherapy. In addition, having travelled quite extensively living in distinct cultures, enhanced my understanding of human behaviour.
Training:
I trained in Ancient Wisdom and Modern Science (neuroscience). This allows me to integrate Body-Focused Therapy, Experiential Dynamic Therapy (AEDP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), CBT, EMDR, IFS and Mindfulness-Based Interventions. With these evidence-based approaches, I help my clients overcome life challenges, find a right balance between thinking and feeling.
Specialities:
Having seen more clients present with trauma, I started specialising in Trauma since Jan 2020. I am noticeably confident working with trauma and trauma related symptoms. I understand trauma through the lens of neuroscience, such as attachment or what is also known as relational trauma, ACEs/shock and developmental trauma, anger, anxiety, chronic depression, pain, relationship issues, shame, and sexual issues.
My Approach:
With your permission and collaboration, we will tailor-make treatment holistically to you, incorporating bio-psycho-social-identity-intuition-spirituality where necessary. The application takes place in the here and now. A first assessment allows for confidentiality and a possible good fit. I teach various self-regulation techniques before doing deeper trauma work or problem solving. Together, we work bottom up and top down making sense of whatever you present, to find the right balance between thinking and feeling. The Goal: to explore the roots of current or past experiences, to eliminate symptomatic suffering so that healing can occur, to live at peak capacity, to love and receive love, to work, to create, to be curious, and to fully engage in life by doing things differently in the "real world" outside of the therapy room. It was a pleasure

Written by A.D. on Sep 08, 2022 after therapy with Daniel for 2 weeks on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, family conflicts, trauma and abuse, career difficulties, and coaching

I've only had two sessions with Daniel and already he has impacted my life in profound and unforeseen ways. He is not only masterful in knowing exactly what to say to make me feel better and more open and free, but he leads me through the most relaxing meditations which I have then employed through the week, and he makes me feel validated and builds my confidence in the most natural, empowering way. I'm truly grateful to have been matched with him, as I don't feel alone on my journey anymore.

Daniel and I worked well during the first 2 sessions, during the last one I believe we are not a good match anymore, I think that the more I have to work on me, the little I can handle at the time and I am very sensitive to strong opinions and judgment independently of it’s the “truth” it took me a while to decide to write this review.
