Hello! My name is Dani, I am a registered art therapist and licensed professional counselor with a substance abuse specialty. I have been practicing in Wisconsin for over 9 years. In 2011 I received my Master’s degree in Art Therapy with a Concentration in Counseling. This has provided me with the education to meet requirements for both the LPC and ATR with the State of Wisconsin's Department of Safety and Professional Services. I have extensive experience with a wide array of individuals whom have various mental health diagnoses, behavioral disorders, and substance use disorders. I specialize in trauma treatment as well as several other specific areas such as depression, anxiety, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, substance use disorders, LGBTQ related concerns, relationship difficulties, individuals experiencing life changes, and many other areas of focus.
I have specialized training in dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, person centered therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy (both trauma focused and traditional). Being a registered art therapist, I use these techniques in conjunction with art making, however, that does not limit our sessions to art making, nor does it mean it is necessary. Instead, art therapy is a way of conceptualizing therapy differently than traditional approaches. Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that combines the creative process of art making and/or other creative outlets (i.e. - writing or theater) with the theories of psychology. Creating art can in and of itself be a form of self-expression and healing, but it can also be used as a tool to facilitate verbal communication and to help achieve therapeutic goals. Art therapy is a relatively non-intrusive form of therapy that can help people of all ages express difficult thoughts and feelings. Art therapy is about self-exploration and healing and not about making “good” art. Therefore, prior experience or skill in art is not required in order to successfully engage in art therapy. If you are interested in learning more about Art Therapy, or are specifically interested in using art therapy as part of your services with me, please let me know and we will ensure a way to incorporate that during our sessions or as homework directives to work on any issues you are wanting to resolve or improve.
I have a very trauma informed approach to counseling. Many of us (if not all) have experienced traumatic events in our life, and it is important to acknowledge that these traumas from our past could have an impact on how we heal. I also believe in a person centered approach, meaning you are in control of the goals you want to work on. I will always do my best to understand your point of view and will work with you to set your own goals. From there we will take the necessary steps together to help you meet them.
I look forward to working with you. Be well.

Danielle is warm and comfortable to talk to and you can truly feel like she wants to help you.
After a plethora of in-person counselors that just didn’t work, I am absolutely relieved to have found Danielle! She has been a great help and gives me the tools I need to succeed.
Danielle is amazing. Truly an amazing help in my life.
Danielle is very responsive and understanding. I have only been using BetterHelp for a little while now, and she has made it a lot easier to tell her what's all going on. Can't thank her enough for all the support!
Danielle has a very positive aspect on things, but also acts like a real person that truly understands how difficult things are. She also uses her resources to help me understand better of what's going on with me a ways to work though them. If something doesn't help, then she finds another way.
Danielle is wonderful. She does a great job staying in touch and taking the time to listen to concerns. All of her advice has been very helpful so far.
