About me

David has a very diverse background. In addition to Masters in Mental Health Counseling, he has a Maters in Biology/Biochemistry and worked in Research. David changed fields and worked 25 years as a radiochemist which combined nuclear chemistry and physics.
As a counselor his background has been very beneficial in understanding the processes underlying behavior and mental health. As a result of his work in industry David has good people skills which are essential in working with clients with mental health issues.

David provides an eclectic approach in counseling theory and uses Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Counseling, Schema Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy. He is trained in Biofeedback and Neurofeedback which are good tools to help clients with issues such as depression, anxiety disorders and addiction. David’s initial approach is to develop a trusting relationship with the client. He then works with the client to identify the specific issues. A treatment plan is developed to address these issues. As treatment proceeds this plan may be revised as specific issues come up. When the client completes the plan, he will be reassessed. Depending on the clients progress the client may be discharged with specific goals to work on. If there are still unresolved issues a new treatment plan will be developed and treatment continued. If there are issues that require a different approach David may refer the client to another counselor that specializes in the client’s specific issues.

On a personal level David has three adult children and two grandsons. David was raised in the mountains of Wyoming and has a place south of Jackson Hole which he spends as much time as he can. There his closest neighbors are elk, moose, and wolves. David lives most of the time in Boise. He has been fortunate to have traveled the world a great deal spending time in South East Asia and China. He recently spent time in Tuscany and in Malta. He still skis, canoes, loves to fly fish and generally spend time in nature.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for David Demorest. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

David was my first therapist, fortunately. I was very reluctant to ask anyone for help. But David's gentle, attentive and intelligent communication put me at ease and allowed me to examine issues in my life without fear. He paid attention to my complex story and responded with empathy and worked hard to find tools that could be used for my personal problems. He also brought his own personal stories into our conversations that made me feel like I was talking to a real person who understands what it's like living in the real world. Even though there are basic procedures and remedies for our human conditions, I didn't feel like I had been given 'cookie cutter' remedies. He was intuitive and taylored his recommendations to fit my personal needs. Though our time together was short, I now feel equipped to intelligently address my life. Thanks David.

I like that he is knowledgeable in a lot of different aspects of life and is able to take things that I've been experiencing from anxiety or PTSD and break them down to a scientific reason why it happens and explains it in a way that makes since. He sends me things to read and watch and see things to learn about ways I am able to make changes. It's learning how to manage and change things I have struggled with but his approach seems to be having a positive effect in my life.
