Deborah Pogel

About Me

I am a psychotherapist/social worker in Iowa and have worked with clients for over 10 years at a Non- profit mental health agency and in my private practice. I am compassionate about people that I work with and will use every strength in an individual to help them through a challenging situation.

I employ an integrative approach to treatment based on the needs of the individual. My therapeutic approach is heavily based on the widely researched and evidence based cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapy, with a strong focus on teaching mindfulness skills. My counseling is open, honest, and experiential. I have worked successfully with many clients on issues related to phase of life stress, depression, anxiety, low self esteem, and relationship problems. I see counseling as a chance for each of us to learn more about ourselves as we sift through the issues and problems we carry with us throughout life.

It is my belief that positive life changes can occur when a safe, empathic and supportive space is provided. I commend those willing to open themselves up and invite this positive change. When provided with the opportunity to share our thoughts and feelings with someone, that process in itself, creates healing and therefore change.

I warmly invite you to contact me.

Deborah Pogel understood me very quickly, in only 2 or 3 sessions, I am already improving. Of course, I still have such a lot of steps to pass, but It is clearly a good news to be sure you are going to the right direction with someone professional with clear explanations.

Deborah listens carefully to your thoughts, and reflects thoughtfully and offer helpful suggestions. I have benefitted from her insights tremendously. I appreciate the manner in which she challenges me to think in a new direction and see myself with new eyes. Being able to go back and re-read her counsel to me has been extremely valuable.

Deborah is absolutely brilliant. Completely and perfectly matched to my needs and my way of communicating. We're focusing a lot on meditative practices and different ways of thinking, which is just so refreshing. She's quite professional in the way she talks to me and deals with me, so definitely a solid support.

In the short time I've been engaged with Deborah, she has been a committed friend and generous giver of advice and love. I would recommend her to anyone seeking a spiritual counselor who is also very grounded and practical.

Deborah has been helpful to me. She has a Buddhist slant, which I like. The meditations she has suggested for me have been helpful. Meditations for letting go and for loving kindness, for example. I think she is a good Counselor. :-)
