About me

I have a PhD in Psychology and have been a Licensed Professional Counselor for over two decades. I am easy going in an effort to provide a safe and secure counseling atmosphere. As a result of my years of experience in working with clients from an array of cultural backgrounds, I provide a non judgmental atmosphere that supports my clients in their quest for healing and growth. I am able to identify patterns of behaviors that may be based on childhood or adult experiences and provide insight that can assist clients in making desired changes. I have worked in my own private practice and also contracted with counseling agencies. I use Psychodynamic Therapy in an effort to assist clients in exploring childhood experiences that may be impacting current or ongoing problems and behaviors; with a Solution Focused lens that also allows clients to identify their own strengths. I have worked with teens and adults as individual clients, as well as couples and families. I look forward to our starting our journey with you so please to contact me for counseling services.

I grew up and continue to live in Southeast Michigan.

In addition to my work as a counselor, I teach as an adjunct faculty member at two universities in the Counseling curriculum. I retired from the State of Michigan, Child and Family Services, after 35 years of services. I enjoy reading, watching Law & Order, traveling. Most of all I love being a grandmother.

Very helpful. Offers a lot of great insight and empathy towards her clients. She is great at listening and responds to messages outside of live sessions. Very knowledgeable in her trade and kind toward others.

Dr. Debra Napier is an empathic and knowledgable professional. She is non judgmental and keeps the session as a safe space. Dr. Napier offers resources and strategies to reflect on outside of the session. However, there is no extra pressure to get anything done. Before sessions I can feel some anxiety with getting ready to "get down to work" but am immediately grateful every time I complete a session.

During the pandemic I've been trying to juggle parenting, working at home and my relationship. It got to a point I felt like something was going to give and I didn't want it to be me. This is my first experience with online counseling and I highly recommend it. It has been a saving a grace. All my gratitude to Dr. Napier.
