Declan Kent
About me
Using a wide network of approaches I intend to make therapy a unique and tailored process for my clients. I began my career in clinical environments, where I observed many individuals with many different challenging behaviours. Though where others saw a problem I saw it as just that; a challenge. Inherently I knew that these patients did not want to act this way, nor feel the way they feel. I volunteered and became an honorary assistant psychologist at many hospitals, and using what I had learnt from my undergrad in psychology, attempted to absorb as much information about some of the treatments these hospitals used. But it wasn't enough, and I needed to know more about the process of helping others using psychological theory. That's when I underwent my masters in counselling and psychotherapy and with that a new respect for a wider array of treatment styles. Here I learnt language skills, assessment criteria and of course; how to use what I knew at that time to become the best counsellor I could be.
I am extremely passionate about my work, as to me, I couldn't see myself in this world doing anything else.
I use an integrative method for my clients, which means I use the appropriate method/approach for the individual. I like to reinforce that tailor-made aspect of my therapy with my clients, to firmly delve into the issue or challenge at hand and to explore it from the best perspective. And ultimately, that's how I see therapy, I am not an expect on all things emotion and thought, I merely act as a guide for you, as ultimatly you are the expect of yourself.

Declan has been amazing, he understands what I need even when when I don't. He's really perceptive and has helped me reframe parts of my relationship that have been troubling. I'm too close to things that are going on and he can see things from a different perspective. He's kind and gentle and I feel like he's with me all the way. I would absolutely recommend him.
