I am a skilled, professional and resourceful Clinical Social Worker with twenty-eight years post Masters (MSW) experience. I believe in providing evidence-based, culturally sensitive, patient-focused mental health treatment and support. I have assessed, diagnosed and provided clinical, evidenced based treatment to men and women who work, young adults, the elderly and those living with chronic medical conditions.
I am passionate about helping people grow and learn to be the best version of themselves. I believe that it is never too late to change, to challenge or to grow beyond our previous experiences of ourselves and our world. The one true reality is that the only constant in the universe is "Change." Accepting this reality opens up a world of possibilities. My goal is to help you find your way to the person you want to be; one step a time. We do this without shame, guilt or any "woulda, shoulda or coulda" recriminations.
I am a strong believer in the human spirit. I believe that if one could do better they would. Therefore, at any given time we are all doing the best we can; even it if may not be looking so great. The work of therapy and counseling is to help you raise the bar and know better, so you can choose it, practice it and own it as your new normal. My job is to help you identify what to work on and to support you and teach you new skills to manifest positive movement. I will offer you different perspectives for your consideration to include lessons from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness and paradigms and models.
I look forward to working with you. We will begin, "where you are at" and move forward together.

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Derrell Chandler. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Derell helped me get through the darkest period of my adult life. She is non-judgmental and genuinely helpful. Reaching out for help was one of the best things I could have ever done for myself.
She is the best…honestly don’t know where I’d be without her. She always knows what I’m trying to say, even if I can’t find the right words and has helped me gain the tools and life skills I need to battle anxiety. She has been patient and kind, but firm when I needed it. I feel extremely grateful for Derrell!
I started therapy with Derrell in January of 2021. I had experienced a great deal of trauma associated with my father's sudden death at an early age. I found myself codependent on relationships, yet feeling extremely lonely. Derrell and I went on a 13 month journey through self love, healing, and exploring who I was to myself. Through therapy with Derrell, I learned what it meant have compassion for myself, forgive myself for mistakes, and learned a great deal of tools that helped me to overcome feelings associated with my past. She emphasizes radical acceptance of you are, and the circumstances around you. I always felt so comfortable with her during our sessions. She is not only knowledgeable in her profession, but also life wisdom. She has made an impact on my life that I will never forget.
Derrell is by far one of the best therapists I've ever had. She is very honest, straightforward, professional, and her methods are very effective. She allows you to acknowledge things and promote positive tweaking within yourself. I wish I would have discovered her a long time ago but I'm grateful for her services now. As a young woman of color, you'll definitely appreciate her and want to continue working with her even after you think it's time to end therapy.
Derrell has been very beneficial for me even though it has just started. I am looking forward to further therapy with her and receive helpful goals to achieve.
Derrell is such a positive part of my week. She is proactive and has a whole toolbox of ideas she utilizes in helping me with my anxiety and depression. An excellent listener, she is encouraging but also able to gently confront me with truths.
she is a wonderful and caring person
Since April I feel like a new human being with a brighter perspective on life. I can not thank you enough for help me come so far and truly helping me to understand what it is I was doing so that I do not go back too ok that dark place. My marriage, family, social and personal life have blossomed, so thank you so much already!
Derrell has really been blessing in one of the darkest seasons of my life. Not only does she offer solid, hard truth about yourself and the reality around you, she operates with grace and gentleness that is unlike any other! She also gives applicable advice and "homework" which has really helped me track in the positives. I highly recommend Derrell - she has been the most personable, honest, and healthy therapist that I have ever seen. She is an ally, a mentor, and my favorite-your own personal cheerleader. I can't thank Derrell enough for the positive, and healthy impact she has made on my life.
Derrell is great, I’ve talked to her for the last couple of months and she’s been very kind and caring and also keeping me accountable. I really like her philosophy of earth school. We’re all here to learn! Would def recommend her :)
Miss Derrell keeps it real with me, and calls me out in all of the best ways. I logically know some of the things that Miss Derrell has talked with me about, but I always seem to have an argument back, and she doesn't allow that. She has helped me to come to a couple of realizations that have been crucial to me stepping out of the shadow.
She's great. She honestly saved my life and I don't think i ever would've been able to make as much progress on myself and my life as i did without her
She is wonderful to talk to. I've only had two sessions so far and it feels like talking to an old friend. She has been very helpful so far.
Derrell has provided me with really useful tools and perspectives that have empowered me in my work and personal life. She makes herself available between our sessions as well, which is helpful when something urgent pops up thought-out the week.
Derrell has been a really good counceler for me. She makes me feel like im taking a more active approach into tackling my issues. Before i was the only one talking and asking for excercises to use to help me but shes given to me before i even needed to ask. I dont feel like im running around in circles with my problems anymore.
She’s amazing and listens to what her clients needs. She reads messages and replies and assures you that she cares.
