There are so many different circumstances that lead to seeking counseling. Most of the time, it comes down to the fact that we know something has to change and we don't know what (or how) to do this alone. That is where I come in. I am here to listen...to support and encourage. I am also here to help you sort through your thoughts and feelings so that you can begin to see some positive movement again.
I am a licensed professional counselor in Colorado with over 10 years professional experience helping people. I have successfully worked with Clients to address: Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Grief and Loss, Divorce, Parenting Challenges, Physical and Emotional Trauma, Family Conflict and Communication, Substance Use, etc. I also have a lot of experience working with individuals, couples, and families.
My counseling style is supportive and goal oriented. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. Depending on my clients’ needs, I draw from diverse counseling techniques that can include: Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI), as well as psychodynamic therapy techniques. Every client is unique, so all counseling is individualized to meet their individual strengths and challenges.
At times, we all can find ourselves feeling isolated...alone...without understanding. It can be hard to reach out to someone and seek the support you need. There is hope, though. The support is there for you when you are ready.

Don has been supportive and responsive at every opportunity. Whatever comes up that seems like a big deal to me turns out, after a short conversation, to be an opportunity for a manageable and actionable course adjustment. He helps me to take life’s twists in stride, making meaningful changes that are not overwhelming. The trajectory my life has taken since I began working with Don is entirely positive, though also challenging enough to be rewarding. Thanks, Don!

Don is great support. Talking on and off for the last couple of years, he's helped me deal with anxieties from a few different career transitions, complete change in vision for future paths, intricate relationship issues and worries, and other various issues. He's a rock that reminds me where I am and is easy to open up to.

Don Maestas is very patient, non-judgmental, and resourceful. He took the time to learn my preferred way of learning and infused that into my therapy, which helped me address issues thoroughly and in a timely manner. Don Maestas worked with me and not for me, and I appreciate that distinction. He is by far the best Therapist I have worked with.

I cannot say enough how much I appreciate Don's expertise and perspective. When talking to Mr. Don Maestas I don't feel at all that I'm talking to a stranger but yet I feel more if I am speaking to someone that I trust not just only as a therapist but mostly a friend. I would highly recommend a friend or family member to work with Mr. Don Maestas.

I have participated in traditional counseling in the past. I was apprehensive about this format in the beginning. However, Don was a great fit/match, I’ve become comfortable with the format and would recommend Better Help and Don to others.

It’s not often in life that people really listen. It may be his job, but he really does and without judgement. He not only completely understands my point of view, but he strives to also make me understand all of the facets involved in my thinking, whilst developing strategies to resolve my inner conflicts and negative thinking.
Importantly, he appears a friendly and very amiable guy who is genuinely interested in my problems and wants to help me overcome them. A top guy and top counsellor.

Don is a professional counselor, yet it feels like you’re speaking to a friend.
His expertise comes through with the deep questions he asks, the exercises he shares, and the regular check-ins.
I believe the counseling sessions I’ve had with Don have helped me focus on what truly matters, and continuously allow me to take a step back and observe the bigger picture, and reflect on how I can take control towards shaping my life how I want it, and most importantly learning for myself what that is and would be for me (to find true happiness).
