Aloha, I am Dr. Edward Suarez. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with 20 years of experience consulting, training and providing mental health services to a wide range of individuals around the world, including Florida, Hawaii and recently, headquartered in Morocco helping U.S. Peace Corps volunteers adjust to life in Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. I received my doctoral degree from the University of Hawaii, specializing in cross-cultural approaches to severe mental illnesses (such as schizophrenia, bipolar and major depression) but since then have expanded my expertise into areas of adjustment, stress & coping, anxiety (including social anxiety, OCD and phobias)
My training and therapeutic approach focus on using best practices such as client-centered, trauma-informed, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), including mindfulness and motivational interviewing, designed to help my clients efficiently assess and address problems in the here and now in order to achieve timely and lasting improvements. Usually this begins with a holistic assessment and focus on each person's health, diet, nutrition, exercise, sleep hygiene, socialization, stress coping skills and self-care regimen, in addition to any additional specific concerns of each client I serve.
My therapeutic approach emphasizes rapport building, empathic listening, radical acceptance, genuineness, and helping client's develop interpersonal (communication), intrapersonal (mental hygiene) and problem-solving skills so they can build on therapy to independently maximize their potential. The therapeutic relationship involves mutual collaboration in creating a client-based and client-driven plan so we can honestly assess and document progress and client readiness to successfully graduate and move on in a reasonable amount of time, typically just 1-2 months.
Additional areas of focus: Addictions, LGBT, Family conflicts, Grief, Intimacy-related issues, Sleeping disorders, Parenting issues, Anger management, Self esteem, Career difficulties, Bipolar disorder, Coaching, Compassion fatigue, ADHD, Abandonment, Aging and Geriatric Issues, Chronic Pain Illness and Disability, Commitment Issues, Divorce and Separation, Expats, Family of Origin Issues, Family Problems, Fatherhood Issues, Impulsivity, Infidelity, Isolation / Loneliness, Jealousy, Life Purpose, Men's Issues, Mood Disorders, Narcissism, Panic Disorder and Panic Attacks, Phobias, Polyamory / Nonmonogamous Relationships, Post-traumatic Stress, Process addiction (porn, exercise, gambling), Sexuality, Social Anxiety and Phobia, Workplace Issues

I have been in therapy with Dr. Suarez for some years now. We started during a nasty divorce, and we have been working together thru tough times and great moments, and today as I'm preparing to welcome my firstborn child with my happy couple, I can say I'm thrilled to have Dr. Suarez in this journey, I hope we have many years to come and we keep building this peace were my new family is growing.
Thank you so much, Doc!

Dr. Suarez shows a great amount of empathy and understanding, I felt that his questions were really useful in getting to the root of the issues.

I am very grateful to have connected with Dr. Suarez.
He has been tremendously helpful in my healing journey. He continuously encourages me and challenges me to show up authentically, in ways I haven't ever been able to, prior to beginning therapy. He allows me the space to vent, to mourn, to celebrate, and to sit still and think--often times, all in one session.
I was skeptical of starting therapy and opening up to someone I considered a stranger but Dr. Edward Suarez made this process positive and inviting. Now in many ways he knows me better than anyone in my life outside of therapy (we are still working on that). I look forward to continuing my growth with his support and will forever hold space and gratitude for what he has taught me.
