About me
Hello!
Asking for help can be a difficult, but I'm really glad you took the initiative. Kudos to you for being resilient and resourceful.
Our lives are shaped by the experiences and environments we encounter, and these influences can have a lasting effect on our well-being. Acknowledging and addressing personal challenges requires both courage and vulnerability. It is crucial that you feel at ease and have a sense of trust in your therapist as you embark on this journey.
My name is Edwin Yau, and I am a licensed therapist (LCSW) based in Los Angeles, California. In therapy, I take a client-centered approach, recognizing that you are the expert of your own life and possess the power to choose the direction and depth of therapy. Through a strengths-based and solutions-focused perspective, I assist you in identifying your strengths and developing a personalized plan to achieve your goals. I also incorporate modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, aiming to identify thought patterns that contribute to unwanted thoughts and behaviors. I have a doctorate in educational psychology from USC, a master’s in social work from UCLA, and am an adjunct professor.
Finding the right therapist that you trust can be a challenging. I invite you to schedule an initial meeting where you can share what you're experiencing, and together, we will determine the most effective path forward. I generally meet with clients for 30 minutes on the phone, but I am willing to do an initial video call to address your unique needs. I am committed to supporting you in navigating your experiences and empowering you to overcome the barriers you’re facing.
