Hello! My name is Eileen Houtzer and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist practicing in California. I have been providing counseling services for individual and couples as well as employee assistant case management services for the past 17 years. I have a master’s degree in Counseling and a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. In addition to private practice, I have worked in community college, hospital, and workplace settings, providing long-term and short-term treatment for a wide range of mental health issues using a variety of therapeutic modalities.
My belief is that treatment plans are built collaboratively between the therapist and the client and are adjusted as circumstances change. Based on your needs, I will utilize theoretical models that will help to direct the treatment plan. I am very pragmatic in my approach. You may be interested in self-exploration and desire to work on maladaptive patterns of relating to others and/or reflect on the impact of early childhood experiences on current relationships and adult functioning. To meet these goals, I will borrow from therapeutic models that emphasize attachment as a key element in how we interact with others. If you prefer support that offers a more hands-on, practical approach to problem solving, I would use a solution-focused and/or cognitive behavioral approach to address your concerns. This might include developing better strategies for stress management, decision making, and communication skills. I can also provide couple’s counseling for individuals seeking a more satisfying and productive marital life.
There is no right or wrong way to engage in the therapeutic process. We will go at your own pace and address the needs that are important to you. During our time together, we will work to understand what the problem situations are and develop new strength-based strategies for managing these situations more effectively. I look forward to working with you!
