About me

Hello, my name is Elizabeth Parham, but I've always gone by Libby, welcome to BetterHelp.com, and congratulations to you for starting on your journey to a better, more fulfilling life. It takes real courage to admit that you might need some outside help. I understand, not just from a professional stand point but from a personal stand point as well. I went back to school and received my Masters in Social Work at Azusa Pacific University in Southern California in my late 30s, after many turbulent years that included some really rough times (including divorce, homelessness, etc.). I'm so very honored to be a therapist these days and to have the chance to relate to my clients in a very humanistic way. I practice primarily Narrative Therapy and other client centered, and trauma focused approaches to therapy as well as incorporating Evidence Based Practices like CBT/DBT to help counter old negative messaging from the inner critic. I use Solution Focused models that work towards bringing peace and happiness and a sense of personal well being and belonging to the client. I use tools from Positive Psychology and Mindfulness as well as older methods such as the Jungian model and Psychodynamic therapeutic approaches to hold the mirror up to my clients and show them what beautiful and amazing people they are and to empower them to push through past trauma and past negative messaging in order to be present and feel good about themselves. I provide homework exercises as well as a structured talk therapy approach in each session so that the client feels seen, heard and understood. I have worked with populations that include dual diagnosed individuals, adolescents in crisis, single fathers, domestic violence survivors, front line healthcare workers; group therapy as well as individual and family therapy. I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker in the State of Massachusetts (#124009) and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California and (#99637) and I am currently working towards getting licensed in the State of Virginia (my new home State). My work continues to grow and evolve and I learn and use new tools that best serve my clients every day. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have and look forward to walking with you on this journey to self discovery and healing.

Post Script: I've been made aware by some clients that the BetterHelp site does not show on the Scheduling tool which sessions are 1/2 an hour and which are 45 minutes. As I like to meet my clients where they're at, and I know client can prefer different time allotments for sessions, I've listed out which time slots are 1/2 hour and which are 45 minutes.

****Of course, this schedule is subject to change, so if you want to be absolutely certain which amount of time you're booking please contact me directly. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions about scheduling sessions and I look forward to working with you soon!****

Libby is a great therapist and i feel that with the knowledge provided, diving into how and why I'm in my state and highlighting points of improvement, i always feel that i have sight to a those points of improvement. In fact, i see results, and i feel stronger in ways to help with my situations and i cannot say i felt this way before starting my sessions with Libby. I am very satisfied with my therapy experience.

Elizabeth is genuinely so kind and understanding of all situations. Her life experience (as posted in her profile) can make it significantly easier to speak to her knowing she’s struggled too, and has a sense of familiarity and understanding! Simply wonderful!
