About Me

I am a doctoral level licensed clinical professional counselor, with twenty years of experience as a counselor. The most transformative aspect of counseling is feeling safe and supported by a knowledgeable therapist who will listen empathetically and without judgment, and will help nurture and draw out your best self. I believe that your answers lie within you; my job is to help you discover your inner wisdom and identify and overcome the obstacles to self-actualization - whether they are internal (e.g. low self-esteem, critical inner voice, shame, childhood traumas) or external (e.g. illness, loss of a loved one, partner betrayal, family issues, financial troubles). My counseling approach is therefore client-centered, strengths based, and solution-focused.

My education background includes a Bachelor of Science in Human Development, a Master of Science in Professional Counseling, and a Doctorate of Psychology in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have provided counseling online for two years, helping people navigate life, its hardships, and its challenges. I've worked in private practice, specialty clinics, community mental health centers, and hospitals. My clients come from varying ethnic, racial, socioeconomic, and religious backgrounds. Some of my specialties include depression, anxiety, and mood disorders. I have also a great deal of experience working with those who have endured trauma and abuse. I also have extensive experience with VIP clients and high profile cases.

My counseling style is warm and interactive, but with positive accountability to encourage healthy changes. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion - no matter what emotional processing is being worked through or expressed. Having been originally trained in Jungian and narrative therapies in classic psychoanalysis, your story matters to me and matters in its telling. My approach also combines cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and rational-emotive counseling for a trauma-responsive approach that provides support and healing. Your treatment plan will be tailored to meet your unique and specific needs.

It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.

I look forward to working with you!

Dr. Christensen is wonderful. Her counseling style is perfect for me and my ever changing schedule. I can message her whenever I feel the need and she gets back to me as soon as her work day starts. She also sends applicable and interesting articles to help recognize my emotions and how to take care of myself.

Written by K.R. on Jul 13, 2021 after counseling with Emily for 2 weeks on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma and abuse, and self esteem

Dr. C is kind and thoughtful in her questions and responses. I like the worksheets because it forces me to really evaluate how I'm doing. I feel like I can be vulnerable with her and admit my feelings of guilt or shame (even if I know they aren't rational).

Written by K.I. on Jun 28, 2021 after counseling with Emily for 2 weeks on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, addictions, relationship issues, family conflicts, trauma and abuse, intimacy-related issues, eating disorders, self esteem, anger management, and career difficulties

It's pretty difficult to do counseling when the counselor isn't ever available. I can't even make appointments with her! And she didn't even listen to me she just threw worksheets at me. If you're not going to be available and not listen, maybe counseling isn't for you.

Dr. Christensen is amazing. I was hesitant about e-therapy at first but she is the first counselor to ever make me feel validated. I highly appreciate her breadth of knowledge as well for it helps me approach my problems logically and rationally. I trust her and I can tell her anything. She is sweet, respectful, smart, and honest.
Although she can only message, I get so much feedback and information in one message a day. It also works really well with my busy schedule so I reply at my own convenience without the pressure of being there on time for a video call.
