About me

I am a counseling psychologist licensed in the state of New York with over 10 years experience working as a clinician and educator. By creating a welcoming and supportive therapeutic environment, I will assist you with exploring a variety of concerns. I specialize in working with adults that are experiencing depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, career transitions, relationship difficulties, and discrimination in a variety of settings. With a strong emphasis on cultural competency, my approach is integrative and combines psychodynamic, person-centered, mindfulness, and cognitive-behavioral treatment strategies.

I received my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University in 2009 and have authored several publications on racial/cultural identity development and the psychological impact of microaggressions. My most recent co-authored book, Microaggression Theory: Influence and Implications (2019 ) delves into how the often invisible nature of this phenomenon prevents perpetrators from realizing and confronting their own complicity in creating psychological dilemmas for marginalized groups, and discusses how prejudice, privilege, safe spaces, and cultural appropriation have become themes in our culture.

I am here to help you gain higher levels of self-awareness so that you can make more meaningful and informed choices in your life. I look forward to working with you here at BetterHelp.

As a person who has been through a lot of therapists over the years I can affirm that Dr. T is an AMAZING counselor. I can honestly say that with her help I have grown tremendously from an emotional point of view. She is the first therapist I feel has meaningfully helped me look deeper at my own issues which I typically glossed over in the past. She provides excellent feedback and has a way of helping you see things from a different perspective through consistency and an open minded point of view. Her professionalism and meaningful experience is ever present. I honestly feel that she has truly made a difference in my life.

She's actively changing my life for the better. She's the only counselor (and I've had many) that makes me truly feel heard, believed and validated. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my life at this point.
