Member guidelines

Groups are designed to provide a safe, open space for members to discuss experiences – both shared and unique – in a way that can benefit all group members. To create a space where these conversations are possible, we ask that all participants confirm that they understand and will abide by these guidelines before joining the meeting:

  • Facilitated discussion, not therapy: Even though the facilitators BetterHelp has chosen for these sessions are licensed professionals, they are not present to provide psychological intervention or psychotherapy. These facilitators will act solely as moderators of the group. Please note 'Groups' is not intended to provide medical or health care advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
  • Confidentiality: Please be respectful of the Group's privacy. We expect all participants to cultivate a safe, supportive space. We request that you keep what you hear confidential, and not share others' stories. Additionally, you are not allowed to record any portion of the group session or take any photos/screenshots.
  • Respect: Hateful, discriminatory rhetoric will not be tolerated, and the facilitator will remove people who violate this standard.
  • Be present, be curious, be on time: Please have your video on - we believe you will get the most out of this experience by actively participating and contributing to the group dynamic. Additionally, do your best to join on time from a quiet, private space free of distractions (yes, silence your phone!) so that you can fully participate by listening too and plan to stick around the whole time. You can view your notifications after, promise!
  • No ghosting, please: If you can't make it, please unregister from the group session by going to the 'Groups' tab on your BetterHelp account and clicking 'Cancel My Spot'. Please do so as soon as possible or at least 24 hours in advance. Doing so will enable others to join and save you a 'No show' fee that we may charge.
  • Participant requirements:
    • 'Groups' is available only to individuals 18 years of age and older.
    • Additionally, please consider whether this setting is appropriate for you. If you are recently struggling with suicidal thoughts or tendencies, then Groups may not be an appropriate space for you.

Please note that failing to abide by any of these standards will result in your immediate removal from the session, and your suspension from BetterHelp's services. For more information, please refer to the Disclaimer.
