About me

Hello, my name is Jack Kirton and I am an accredited counsellor, psychotherapist, mentor and coach. My core training is in counselling and psychotherapy and I am Level 5 advanced diploma qualified, with distinction. Trained primarily in person-centred theory and also qualified in cognitive behavioural therapy, emotional freedom techniques, and solution-focused coaching, I have over 1000 hours of supervised clinical practice with a mixture of adults, children, and young people and 10 years of experience using counselling skills to support young people's mental health, academic performance, and social development.

I have experience in multiple face-to-face settings and in remote counselling via online video, telephone, and live text sessions, with additional training in counselling adult survivors of sexual abuse, dissociative identity disorder, and working with repressed and false memory.

My approach is results-focused and about supporting you to find your own answers with the issues you want to focus on. I don't presume to be all-knowing however am happy to share my own frame of reference with the caveat that I may be wrong. A second perspective is often very helpful however this is secondary to being given the space to be heard and understood. One of my primary goals is to understand as best as possible your experience, perspective, and who you are as a person and I believe everyone I work with also has something useful to teach me, whether you realise it or not!

My main priority ultimately is to help you become the best version of yourself, according to your own definition, across all levels: physically, cognitively, emotionally, socially, and spiritually.

Thank you for reading my profile, if you think I might suit your needs please do send me a message or ask any questions and if I am not a good match I wish you the very best of luck in succeeding with the challenges you are taking action to address.

Jack is a wonderful therapist and a fantastic listener. He has proven to be keen on helping me talk through and give advice on situations I've struggled with. Therapy with him has been valuable for me, because he has helped me establish strategies to manage my emotions in any situation, no matter how tough, and come out level-headed through them. I've now resolved a situation that I've been struggling with for almost 2 years with the help of Jack's guidance. I feel now in a state of peace for the first time in 2 years. I can't thank Jack enough for his expertise and his kind-heartedness that aided me in becoming a better person. Can't recommend therapy with him enough!

I have completed 4 weeks of counselling with Jack and found it very useful. I found him very easy to talk to and he gave me ideas and tools to look at and consider. By the end of my 4 sessions I feel more positive and more confident about dealing with issues as they arise. I would highly recommend, thank you.

Jack is my third therapist on BetterHelp and have been working with him for a few months now. I really notice and appreciate how committed he is to his work. He has helped me uncover and move through various repetitive issues I have faced for many years, and helps me in my day to day life by guiding me in understanding my behaviours and actions. I feel 100% confidence and trust in Jacks skills as a therapist and the ability to help his clients lead better lives. I’m very grateful I have him as my therapist.
