About me

Many men only turn to counselling or coaching after a crisis has already happened. My job is to help you navigate the challenges that bring you here and help you better anticipate and prepare for those to come.

Hello! My name is Jack Kirton and I am an accredited counsellor, psychotherapist, mentor and performance coach for men. My core discipline is in counselling and psychotherapy and I am Level 5 advanced diploma qualified, with distinction.

Trained primarily in person-centred theory and also qualified in cognitive behavioural therapy, solution-focused coaching and emotional freedom techniques, I have over 3000 hours of supervised clinical practice and 10 years of prior experience using counselling skills to support young people's mental health, academic performance, and social development.

I have experience in multiple face-to-face settings and offer remote counselling via online video, telephone, and live text chat sessions. I work from a dedicated private office space and welcome any questions before your initial assessment.

My approach is results-focused and consists firstly of supporting you to find your own answers to the issues you want to address as efficiently as possible. I will share my own perspective and discuss practical tools and strategies when relevant and necessary, this is secondary however to being given the space to be heard and understood. I seek to understand your experience and who you are as best I can and believe that everyone I work with also has something useful to teach me.

I will vary my method to suit your needs however generally advocate the behavioural approach which emphasises taking action with the knowledge that changes in thinking and emotion often follow.

Facing the often cold harsh truth of reality can be challenging, especially in a world where we are routinely lied to by individuals and organisations who claim to have our best interests in mind. Sometimes the best way to gain some clarity is to speak with someone with no existing investment or tie to you and your life.

My main priority ultimately is to help you move closer to your own vision for who you want to be and what you want to do, according to your own definition and across any and all levels relevant to you: physically, cognitively, emotionally, socially, and spiritually/in matters of faith and belief (or lack of), whilst acknowledging the inherent limitations of life.

Presently working with adult male clients only, I specialise in male psychology and men's issues, intersexual dynamics and relationship issues however have worked with a very broad range of challenges with people from many varied walks of life and offer an approach that in the majority of cases will help you regardless of the specific problem.

Being male poses evolutionarily functional but nevertheless complicating factors that commonly hinder or completely prevent efforts to address one's own mental health. The fact you're reading this and considering taking action is, in my view and with these factors in mind, at least some form of victory already even if you probably don't feel like that at this time.

Thanks for reading my profile, if you think I might suit your needs send me a message and if I am not a good match I wish you the very best of luck in tackling the challenges you are taking action to address.

I’ve been really impressed with Jack and have found his approach very helpful.

Jack's been a tremendous help this last year that I've been seeing him, I've gone through a rollercoaster of a year but he's always been supportive and at my side, helping me weather the storm in my life while providing insights that have lead me from strength to strength!

I feel like I'm in really good hands, feel comfortable talking to Jack (even though my stuttering usually makes it hard for me to feel comfortable talking to people I don't know so well yet), he responds very specifically to me and immediately understood why I wanted the therapy. I've only had a few sessions, but already feel like it's extremely helpful for me, and I'm looking forward to all future sessions.
He furthermore provides me with (voluntary) tasks/worksheets in between the sessions, which help me a lot to think about all of our topics, structure my thoughts and help us both prepare for the next session, these tasks/worksheets are a very good addition to the sessions. He also sent me reading material if I wanted to learn more about some topics. This is the first time I'm in therapy, beforehand I was kinda nervous, but with Jack I feel comfortable and helped well. Therapy with Jack does me a world of good! Thanks a lot, Jack!
