Hello! My name is Jamal and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years of experience providing counseling services. I have worked in a wide range of therapeutic settings including: community mental health, inpatient psychiatric hospitalization, partial and intensive outpatient care, and managing a private practice in the Phoenix community. I work with clients affected by depression, anxiety, substance use, trauma and relationship challenges from individual, group and family work.
My approach to therapy is client centered: clients are the experts on their lives and determine the direction and depth of therapy. Through a strengths-based and solutions-focused lens, I draw on multiple treatment modalities to guide clients in identifying strengths and developing treatment plans that accomplish their goals. I support clients through developing skills via: EMDR, mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation with the goal of moving clients towards a life involving the capacity for experiencing joy and freedom.
Additional areas of focus: Addictions, LGBT, Family conflicts, Grief, Intimacy-related issues, Sleeping disorders, Parenting issues, Anger management, Self esteem, Career difficulties, Bipolar disorder, Compassion fatigue, ADHD, Abandonment, Attachment Issues, Chronic Pain Illness and Disability, Control Issues, Divorce and Separation, Domestic Violence, Family of Origin Issues, Family Problems, Fatherhood Issues, HIV / AIDS, Immigration Issues, Impulsivity, Intellectual Disability, Men's Issues, Midlife Crisis, Military and Veterans Issues, Mood Disorders, Multicultural Concerns, Panic Disorder and Panic Attacks, Paranoia, Post-traumatic Stress, Prejudice and Discrimination, Self-Harm, Sexuality, Workplace Issues

I absolutely love this man. If I had the money I’d still actively be in therapy with him but I have a lot of family stuff going on right now. 11/10, highly recommend. Jamal was always very authentic, very supportive and was always genuinely interested in my well being. He was never stressful to talk to, and was very open and flexible in working with my schedule. I’m grateful for what he’s done for me, even if only for a short time, and I hope to meet him again. Until next time Mr. Mayhew :)
