About me

I am a professional therapist with membership in the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy since 2005. I obtained my CTI Accredited Diploma in Counselling Skills twelve years ago, then spent five years after that working with The Samaritans,  HOPELine UK, MIND and the Alzheimer’s Society to provide face-to-face and telephone counselling. I have conducted a private practice for the last nine years.
With my background in individual therapy, I am able to build relationships quickly and provide a safe and comfortable environment for clients to address issues and concerns as well as find constructive ways to heal and grow in strength of mind.

My role is to find healthy and effective ways to integrate important changes to how clients cope with the emotional impact of their experiences in the past. I help develop vital skills to move forward, to help a client confidently discover and explore ways to be healthier and stronger in the face of whatever challenges present during the therapeutic process. Confidentiality, non-judgment, unconditional positive regard, a high degree of empathy, privacy and honesty are the hallmarks of my practice.

I use Rogerian Person-Centred therapy and Existential Psychotherapy techniques. My calm, humanistic approach is vital to my work and also reflects my values and my principles. I have worked primarily with bereaved clients, but also clients who have survived personal trauma and health issues, asylum seekers and refugees, former prostitutes, carers of dementia patients and ex-offenders.

While continually developing myself professionally by writing journals, reading articles, attending conferences and seminars and liaising with colleagues within the field of counselling and psychotherapy I have successfully managed to conduct my individual practice and I have supported a diverse client base.

James and I started working together in September 2023. During a turbulent time, James provided a listening ear, helped me work through my thoughts and emotions. I am stronger today thanks to his help. Thank you !

Finding the right therapist was quite a challenge for me, as a therapist myself I needed someone who was able to go deep. As well as having sone real life experiences.
James hasn’t disappointed me.
I feel safe and secure to share my concerns without fear of being judged.
He offers me different perspectives and insights that are very insightful on his part.

James epitomises everything you would want in a therapist. He's wise, understanding, compassionate, honest, supportive and genuine.
during my sessions I never once felt judged. His calm and stoic demeanour allowed me to be vulnerable whilst maintaining an environment that felt safe.

In a particularly challenging time I reached out to James who responded quickly and conscientiously, providing the perfect immediate answer to my current state of crisis, evidence of his understanding of my needs after only a dozen or so sessions of meeting. Thank you David.

if you're looking for a master in the art of helping people through listening and speaking, look no further, James is your guy.

James is a brilliant therapist, he creates a safe environment where I can be my authentic self and share my thoughts. He's encouraged me to try to see things in a different light and deal with my challenges. I wouldn't hesitate recommending James to anyone going through a difficult time. Our sessions I will always value.

Cool, calm and collected. An intelligent and wise man that has a knack for getting you to open up without judgement. Always responds and is available to listen. Knows when to step back and how to leave the session on a positive note
