About Me

My name is Janet Mutahangarwa and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of North Carolina. I have over 10 years of experience in mental health services and behavioral issues. I treat individuals from diverse backgrounds. I also hold a degree in finance which sometimes comes handy when helping those who are stressed due to financial needs. My approach is treating the whole person because most of the time our problems are the outcome of more than just one thing and when I get to know you as a whole person I am able to address different issues that could be contributing to that one specific problem. We all experience some difficulties in our lives sometimes and we all cope differently. What works for one person/couple who are experiencing a similar situation may not work for another and so I personalize your treatment to fit you. Being in therapy is like being on a journey, and I make sure you are on the driver’s seat and I become your great working GPS, guiding you to your desired destination. We might have to take a detour on the way but together we will get you where you want to be.

Only 2 meetings so far, but she seems very knowledgeable. She listens well and seems approachable. She provides information as needed as well as giving different suggestions to achieve the desired goal.

Janet has been an insightful and responsive guide as I try to navigate through anger and anxiety issues. She has also been extremely patient with my flaky participation, boosting me with the right dose of reality check when needed. Being an Indian, I appreciate her understanding of cultural differences in dealing with familial conflicts, as also her non-judgmental attitude. She offers direct, effective ways to tackle a issue - no beating around the bush, she is very clear and that helped me greatly to develop clarity myself.

I started therapy for one thing and out of necessity it became about something else entirely. Janet was there at each phase with kindness, patience and a plan. Her use of CBT and mindfulness gave me concrete tools to employ every day and find strength and self-compassion. I am grateful for her authenticity, her honesty, even when it’s hard to hear, and her acceptance.

As this was my first time trying online therapy, I was very pleased to have Janet as my counselor. I found it very easy and comfortable talking to her, and she paid very close attention and helped me get to the root of my problems. Janet is very open-minded and remembers all the details you tell her. She’s very neutral with her advice as well, not swinging you in any particular direction but gently guides you to finding it on your own.
