Janette Brown, LMFT
About me
Midwest trained, and licensed in California & Washington, I’ve spent 52 years in the field of counseling & supervisory education. Now, in retirement, I offer a limited number of consultations, as a community service in this socio-political time of division & stress. I specialize in women's issues and see individuals only, no longer couples or whole families.
I continue to support people actively engaged in improving their personal & work relationships. My style is interactive with a dose of humor; I don't believe in using stigmatizing labels, and I discourage the lay use of diagnostic ones. (I find labels are often misused, & they are reductionist in nature, which is not helpful.)
It takes courage to seek joy in life and step forward into change. If you are well-motivated to do that, I am very glad to facilitate your efforts. That said, you must take charge of your therapy process; the more proactively you engage, the more certainly you will go forward.
NOTE: The first session is an intake, for the purpose of checking mutual chemistry & mutual interest in working together. If it is not a good match, I will encourage your requesting a different therapist immediately. Session success has a lot to do with the ease of communication between counselor & client; so please be picky.
IMPORTANT: There are certain types of situations I do not address, that fall outside my scope of practice; I restrict myself from work with persons who have a history of alcohol or drug use & any clients who are under age.
ALSO, please do not specifically request my services if these practice restrictions apply to you.
I also gladly provide support for persons involved in political-activism, to give a space to air their frustrations.
Lastly, I have limited time-slots available, and all are on a weekly basis. All are midday or early evening appointments (the last being 5 pm, Pacific); my availability is on Tuesdays & Thursdays, only.
You will be encouraged to choose the same session-day/hour each week, to avoid booking someone else’s preferred time; and I strongly encourage clients to book ahead 3 weeks, to help prevent anyone else booking your own favored time.
PS: Generally, ‘short term' counseling is 12 sessions, affording adequate time to make some good progress.
I invite your questions, going forward. And my best wishes to you, on your personal growth path. I look forward to meeting!

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Janette Brown. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Janette is highly skilled and insightful. I appreciated her ability to understand what had brought me to therapy. Although I thought I had a clear grasp of the stressors, I realized in her session that there were perspectives other than mine. Her valuable insights are helping me navigate this minefield! Thanks Janette!
