I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia with over 6 years of experience working as a therapist and Substance Abuse Counselor. My passion is to work with individual who are interested in taking steps to improve their mental health. I am an open-minded, understanding, caring, compassionate counselor who will listen and teach the skills that you will need to overcome life challenges without judgement. I believe that every individual is unique and learns differently. I approach every session with the mindset that not every therapy technique works for the same for every person. When I meet with you, we will get to know each other to figure out what will work for you. I have experience working with those who are struggling with ADHD, adjustment disorders, depression, anxiety, PTSD, domestic violence victims and offenders, anger management.
Personally, I have many life experiences that I draw from which helps me empathizes with my clients and understand them better. I have military ties as child and currently as an adult. I understand the struggles of the military life and I know how to get through the highs and lows of deployment, I also understand the struggle associated with reintegrating back into civilian life.
I understand how an unhealthy relationship can be devastating leaving emotional scars on all members of the family. I know what steps it takes to overcome the negative thoughts that leave you with low-self-esteem.
I am a warm and interactive counselor who believes in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. My approach sometimes combines cognitive-behavioral, solution focused, and rational-emotive counseling, however, I identify with an eclectic style which enables me to use what works for that person at that moment. I provide Christian counseling; I have a strong faith and have found that it can be a great source of strength when we are going through difficult times in our lives. I look forward meeting with you and talking through your problems with you to come up with solutions to make your life better.

Jean has catered to me in every way possible when she can! That’s the thing, I understand she has her own life to live but she’s also helping me with mine. She makes herself available a lot of the time and helps in various different ways. Although I’ve only been working with her for a short amount of time, it’s working out to be something I’ve enjoyed a lot.

I have worked with over a dozen therapists in my life of 36 years. I say this to add weight to what I am about to say for my review of Jean. Jean has been a huge benefit for my mental health. She listens to my problems and helps me brainstorm ideas before helping to define and mutually agree upon an action plan. I feel like she cares about me personally and has a gift for catering her style, exercises, and insights to my specific situation. I am impressed with the caliber of therapist I found here and she is my first recommendation for anyone in need of a therapist.

I came to therapy a mess. I knew that I needed it but the timing wasn’t right in the past. Jean is and was a God send for me. She had a way of simplifying life and allowing me the space to process and reflect. I loved the homework assignments that she gave me throughout my therapeutic healing process. I felt actively engaged throughout my time spent in therapy. She’s a great listener and provided me with objective feedback. My head space and overall wellness is the best it’s ever been. Thanks so much, Better Help . And many thang thanks to Jean!

My experience counseling with Jean was very helpful. She is an attentive listener, shows a lot of compassion for your problems, and offers plenty of resources to help develop the skills you learn in counseling. I'd also recommend Jean for anyone searching for Christian counseling, as it was encouraging to connect scripture to applicable life situations throughout sessions as well.

She's awesome. I feel comfortable talking to her about anything, and feel that she cares about my well-being, which is the most important thing when seeking counseling. I also really like the text messaging and journaling options. If I'm at work and struggling I have the option of texting, and when I'm home I have the ability to record my thoughts and reflections in journal mode - and can share or not. Jean is great, but so is the platform that makes help so accessable in so many different ways.
