About me

My name is Jen Farrell, and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of North Carolina. I earned my PhD in Sport Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2009. I also have a Master of Social Work degree, specializing in Clinical Mental Health, from Washington University in St. Louis. In my experience as a clinician, I have worked successfully with individuals struggling with eating disorders/disordered eating, body image concerns, depression/anxiety, stress, family problems, and interpersonal/relationship difficulties. Due to my education and experience in sport psychology, I specialize in providing mental health and performance enhancement services to athletes as well. I understand the role of athletics and exercise in one's life and weave the concepts of holistic and balanced wellness into my work. I worked in an eating disorder treatment center for several years providing individual and group therapy services, so I have extensive experience and understanding of eating disorders, disordered eating and compulsive exercise.
I have a passion to help people find new ways to approach their lives and new strategies to make good decisions. I believe in developing the whole person and that every person carries with them the ability to thrive and grow. As a therapist, it is my job to help you learn about and tap into your own resources. My counseling style is warm and compassionate, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for the courage it takes to make changes.

Having provided counseling services in a variety of settings over the years, and most recently with adolescents and college students, I recognize the value in having someone you can trust and confide in to help guide you on the path toward your goals. Most of us lead busy lives and seeking help online can help make counseling easier and stress-free. I encourage you to message me anytime through Better Help. I usually check messages frequently and have availability most days of the week. I offer messaging as well as live chat sessions.

I look forward to working with you!

Talking to Jen really helped me. She was open, insightful, not judgemental, and provided me with the help I needed. I will be very grateful for the time I had working with her.

Jen and I have only had one session and it was a get-to-know-you session. She listened to my issues and offered advice and we discussed the goals of counseling.
