About me

My name is Jennifer Starks and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor in Missouri. I came to the counseling profession after seeing the need in my own life. I was always drawn to helping others but did not formally pursue counseling until becoming a mother to a child with autism spectrum disorder and other mental health-related issues. This inspired me to want to support others in similar circumstances. Since I know what it’s like to need help processing, planning, and finding a new path forward, I want to be that person for you. Overall, I believe therapy should be a safe, inviting space for a person to share, feel seen, explore, heal, and step forward.

For 13 years I’ve worked as a mental health professional in numerous settings including in-home, school/university, and non-profit agencies. I’m experienced in counseling both individuals and families with a variety of needs including anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma, and grief. My areas of specialization include working with families of individuals on the autism spectrum, and supporting young adults as they transition to adulthood.

To provide the best possible care for my clients, I draw from several effective therapeutic approaches including Person Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. I am also trained in exploring values and motivation to help individuals reach their goals. I view therapy as a collaboration; I’m not the expert telling you what to do. Rather using my training and, most importantly, your experience we work together to address your struggles and needs. Whatever reason brings you to this space, it would be my privilege to join you on your life’s path.

Jennifer is great. She does a really good job of listening and really trying to understand the problem. She asks amazing questions that help you really think of your problems in a new ways. Her guidance has really help me transform into a better husband, father, and friend. I would highly recommend her to anyone needing some help.
