About Me

I am a fully licensed therapist both in the state of Florida and in Pennsylvania. I am also a Nationally Certified Counselor as well as Board Certified in Telemental Health. I currently live in Florida and have over 20 years of experience in both the mental health and the medical professions. I have worked in private practice as well as hospital and outpatient settings over the years and have experience with depression, anxiety, relationship and family conflicts, grief and loss, career related issues, medical and chronic pain issues, eating disorders and addictions. I have not met a client that I haven't enjoyed working with. My career goal has always been to be a therapist-it's who I am and how I relate to the world.

I am comfortable utilizing many different approaches depending upon the individual and their presenting issue. Some of those include: Cognitive Behavioral; Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT); Humanistic; Psychodynamic: Behavioral; Solution-Focused or Brief therapy; or Trauma based to name, but a few. The most important concept for me is to gain your trust however. If you don't feel comfortable talking with me and feel like I understand you, it doesn't matter what approach I use or how smart I think I am, it's not going to work for you. So, the main thing I do in the beginning is to take a little time to build trust between us so you feel that this is a safe space. I am very open and honest and I strongly encourage that with everyone I work with. All feedback is welcome. That is important to me.

In my spare time, I'm an artist and I paint when I find time. I do local art shows and commission work. I've taught art in the local elementary school for their special projects during the years. One of these days, I hope to be able to incorporate some art therapy into my practice, but for now, it's just my way of expressing how I feel.

I write a mental health blog that you can look up at www.themoodswing.blog and get either information or some humor depending on the subject and my mood when I'm writing. This coming year in 2020, I'm going to try to write more posts as a goal as I've had many requests to continue writing. Fingers crossed!

I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you better and working together to find a solution that is healthy and right for you.

After my first therapist retired, I tried three others who were OK, but did not meet the bar that my first had met. I considered it a fluke that I had gotten so lucky and no one else could come close to what I hoped therapy could give me.
Until BetterHelp connected me with Jill Ott. Despite beginning my treatment via written messages, I was able to realize an almost immediate connection to Jill as she became uncannily relatable, compassionate and understanding. Though it’s still early in my treatment, I am extremely grateful for the guidance and connection Jill has provided! Thank you!

Jill is fantastic. Just wish I needed.

When I joined Betterhelp I was very happy to learn that I could actually have input on which counselor I would be working with. I had a feeling that many of my issues were based on my current life situation (age, employment, finance, family relationships, etc). I liked that I could choose gender, age range, and other demographics. I think it makes for a more comfortable situation, especially given it was my first time speaking with a therapist.
Jill Ott is very understanding and supportive. She has given me great suggestions on receiving stress, looking for the causes of many issues, and even suggesting underlying medical possibilities (hormones and thyroid levels).
I feel very comfortable speaking with her - almost like I am sharing my thoughts with a very smart friend!
