About me

Welcome!

My name is Jo Lynn Courtney-Johnson and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I have over 20 years experience working with adults, families and children/teens in the mental health field. For the past 14 years, I provide services in school-based therapy, home-based services, and telemedicine online counseling. Prior to the direct counseling field, I worked for 6 years in the social services/community counseling, residential adolescent treatment, and as a life skills coach for adults. Although that seems like a mouthful, it simply means that I have had experience working with a broad range of clinical issues. I specialize in working with clients overwhelmed by stress whether it is rooted in anxiety, family dynamics, parenting, postpardum issues, unhappiness, relationship conflicts, grief/loss, sadness, career concerns , and life changes and help break it down and identify practical personal coping skills for you.

I want to applaude you for taking the first step in reaching out! Seeking a counselor is a courageous step and can be extremely beneficial. My goal is to meet you where you are and assist you in acheiving your goal that brings you here. There can be stigmas still today, when we know how important mental health is to our life. The process for getting help can be overwhelming, feel frustrating and vulnerable. However, I am here to be an open, warm, and safe place to be vulnerable and honest to move forward towards your goals. I commend you for taking steps towards taking care of yourself!

I believe first and foremost in a person-centered approach in counseling. This means, I begin where you are and tailor the treatment approach to your needs while being sensitive to how your individual cultural identities and lifestyle choices impact your experience.

I am ready to help you tackle your struggle head on. Life is tough, times are tough, and I want to help you in any way I can! Collaboration is important - together we can work on establishing concrete goals and steps for you to help overcome your current issues. Just as physical health takes, effort, energy and consistency over time, so does mental health, but changes can start with one choice, one action, one reframing of the perspective.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Jo Courtney-Johnson. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Jo and I instantly clicked. She was judgment-free, empathetic, and encouraging. She was exactly what I needed and told me the truth about everything. After my first session, she sent me worksheets to help me continue therapy on my own and to teach myself tips on how my brain works. Very refreshing, exactly what I needed. I hope everyone gets an opportunity to talk to Jo- we need more of her in this world.
