I am a creative, energetic mental health counselor licensed in Massachusetts and Virginia with over 11 years of experience working as a psychotherapist and board certified art therapist. I am comfortable treating adults with various degrees of concerns and/or mental illnesses and have a significant amount of experience working with active duty military, military families, and veterans .
My counseling style is warm, interactive, genuine, professional and supportive to foster self exploration and expression of feelings in session without fear of judgement. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach to counseling is eclectic to meet the needs of my client but often combines cognitive-behavioral, short term solution focused, motivational interviewing and dialectical behavioral concepts. I can tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. For times when there are no words, I am happy to switch to utilizing metaphor, art or creative arts therapies.
What I love about online therapy is that it's so flexible. When you reach out to me, I will be in touch with you within 24 hours, so you can message me any time, anywhere. I am available for live sessions over instant messenger, telephone or video chat. When it comes to your treatment, you're in charge - we can communicate in whatever way makes you feel most comfortable.
It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.
I look forward to working with you!

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Joanna Martorelli. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Joanna, is a very attentive listener and a helpful problem solver. She is very effective as a therapist.
Thanks for all your support.
I enjoy communicating with Joanna.
Really enjoyed meeting and speaking to Joanna. I really appreciated her warm and personable personality which made it easy to talk to her. I've had therapists that don't show emotion at all and I much prefer someone like Joanna.
She provides great support in navigating life’s issues.
Joanna is compassionate and very skilled. We've been doing CBT and DBT and art therapy for trauma I'm recovering from and it has been very helpful.
She makes a great effort to understand what my problems are and challenges me in the best way.
I have been working with Joanna for a short time however she has been able to create a comfortable rapport through messaging - something I had doubts about with any counselor. I think of her as a support now, and look forward to hearing feedback.
