About me

I am a licensed counselor in Michigan who has been practicing social work for 30 years and with over 15 years of counseling experience working with people who are recovering from life stressors, mental illness and drug/alcohol use. I have worked with people experiencing a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, drug/alcohol use, and personality disorders. I have also helped many people who have experienced trauma or emotional abuse.

My counseling style is interactive, warm, and engaging. I believe in treating everyone with respect and compassion while being sensitive to individual needs. I believe that people strive to be their best and that labels can be stigmatizing. My approach combines motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral, and solution focused approaches. I approach my treatment planning and dialogue with people in a non-judgmental manner.

It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.

I look forward to working with you!

John has been a great resource for me for the past couple of years. He's a great listener and has a lot of great wisdom and analogies to provide in relation.

John is great. I've done over 20 sessions with him (and counting). I hadn't tried therapy in over a decade ago because I had a bad initial experience with someone else. John has showed me how helpful therapy can be. We both listen to each other and have mutual respect. Therapy isn't a magic solution of course. But if you do the work, and intentionally communicate well with your therapist, it adds up. Sometimes even just being able to verbalize what I'm struggling with is half the battle. Even when sometimes that's "I'm not sure what to focus on today." But we somehow figure it out. And whatever I share, John actually listens and often can point out patterns or perspectives I had never considered or haven't been paying enough attention to. Thanks John!
