About me
Hello, my name is John. I am a licensed therapist and semi retired from private practice of 25 years in rural west Tennessee. I have worked in varied milieus: with disabilities, addiction facility, community mental health, psychiatric hospital, group home and private practice. I am a veteran, with a loving home and family (and pets). Both of my parents worked in the 'helping profession', so I came by it naturally. I believe in counseling and therapy. I have used most of the therapeutical interventions that are called for. I believe in matching the intervention with the issue and individual's needs. I look forward to meeting and working with you. I have read your profile and am comfortable working with these issues. Should you have any questions relative to our 'connecting' please don't hesitate to contact me, I want to help.

John was very great. Knowledgeable and helpful in ways I could use on my own and techniques to help me manage my life more effectively. Only reason I’m switching is his retirement coming up. Thanks for everything John!
John is absolutely fantastic.
He has gone above and beyond and has helped me so much and made me feel heard and supported.
I will be forever grateful for his support and guidance in this season of my life.
You have helped bring peace to a restless mind and helped me find joy and laughter in the hard times.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I have not had a chance to actually conduct therapy given my schedule. However, he has been extremely helpful in navigating my understanding of the service. He is retiring and I wish him well!
Mr. Thompson is a great person and therapist. He listens to what is going on in your life and gives you meaningful, applicable insights as to not only addressing your issues, but also how to heal and forgive yourself. He helped me considerably and I highly recommend Mr. Thompson!
John is the best counselor I’ve ever had. He listens, offers practical insights, paints a picture of the path we are on together, and reassures his confidence in me to be successful in my journey to better health. I could not recommend more!
Incredible caring man. Great listener.
Amazing listener
John is a very knowledgeable therapist who has had experience with many types of people and puts you at ease immediately. However, his most appealing quality is how he cuts through the bull and gets to the heart of the matter without being offensive. Truthful but kind.
The first thing I noticed about Dr. Thompson is how well qualified he is in various areas I needed assistance with. He is kind, professional, and speaks very directly. I am so happy I found him.
Very knowledgeable. Great therapist!
John is very supportive.
John is a great listener and his advice gave me encouragement and peace.
Excellent, very experienced therapist.
John is very helpful and with many years of experience he is very knowledgable. I thought he was patient and senstive to my needs and situation, however, I also found him to be quite direct and to the point when he felt he needed to be, and I found this to be very refreshing.
John is great.
He is always great and ready to help anytime I message or need him.
Takes great notes, empathetic, keeps us on track, overcomes connection issues with my wifi, shares his own life experiences
John is very responsive. He understands what I’m going through and provides appropriate advice.
From clinical experience to compassion he stands out from baseline expectations. His experience gives him perspective and has armed him with all that he requires to assist you in working through things. I personally have a rare issue. I wasn't hopeful for therapy to be of any aid. I needed to try something along the stress management line. After a few sessions I am experiencing ease of spirit and more consistent mood regulation. I would recommend him.
I am very grateful to have been matched with John Thompson! He is knowledgeable, kind and compassionate. He listens and provides a safe space to be honest without judgement. I am amazed at the simple, yet very effective tools he has given me and that have already made a difference in just a few short weeks.
He is prompt with my appointment times and is quick to respond to any additional correspondence via the BetterHelp app.
This is the first time I’ve had the courage to reach out to a therapist and he is making the leap of faith and journey meaningful and worthwhile! Thank you!!
I requested a therapist with experience in addictions and trauma, and I was matched with John Thompson. I recommend him for these areas of therapy.
John is a great counselor. Very knowledgeable. I like him a lot
John Thompson is extremely helpful. He is very skilled at zeroing in on root issues and providing a clear perspective. John's no-nonsense approach is refreshing. He is a thoughtful listener and provides valuable feedback. Clearly, his understanding of mental health issues comes from extensive experience and knowledge. His insight and guidance have positively impacted my life and helped me to get to a healthier place much quicker than I would have thought possible. As I continue to work through changing some unhealthy thought processes and learn to view problems from a different angle, I greatly appreciate John's help.
Every session has been a positive experience.
