About Me
Have you ever known someone who has returned from either Iraq or Afghanistan and realized that they are not the same person when they left? Have you ever heard someone say, “I want my husband back”? Maybe you know someone who is lethargic, depressed, cannot hold a job, never leaves the house, has lost all interests in the things they use to enjoy, problems with sleep, irritability, etc.
My name is John Uriarte, and I am a 24-year veteran of the U.S. Army. I retired in 2008 as a Lieutenant Colonel and spent 20 of my 24 years as a Social Work Officer. While on active duty, I treated active-duty soldiers and their family members who were dealing with the stressors of military life. When the war in Iraq started, I continued my counseling of soldiers in the war zone and when I returned, I was helping family members learning how to cope and deal with the changes in their loved ones. After my Army retirement, I continued my work with the VA as the Director of the San Antonio Vet Center. There I continued my work in treating combat veterans and their family members from all wars who are still struggling to make sense of their experience.

John is great! He’s very easy to talk to, and it’s so nice being able to just talk to someone openly and comfortably l. His previous experience and specialties were exactly what I was looking for, and although we’ve only had a handful of sessions, I feel more confident knowing I have his support and guidance moving into the future.
He does a great job of encouraging me and guiding me through anything that's giving me a difficult time. He listens, provides helpful feedback, and offers suggestions. I think he's knowledgeable at his methods, and he does a great job of tailoring his methods to you and your personal struggles.
I think John is uniquely qualified to speak to former veterans about some of the issues that impact us post military life. I am glad and thankful that my company is providing this service to me and thankful that John is the one that I was matched with.
