About me

Hello, my name is Johnie Souza (Pronouns: She/Her/Hers). I am a Licensed Professional Counselor from Oregon, and have worked in mental health for almost 20 years. I started in case management and direct support with adolescents, and then moved towards working in community counseling with chronically mentally ill adults. In 2012, after completing my education, I became a psychotherapist. I continue to learn and grow, most recently becoming a certified Neuroscience Informed Therapist in November 2022. This is my life's calling and I feel truly lucky to be a therapist.

Thank you for considering me as your potential therapist. I believe each person has a purpose, and is given unique gifts and challenges. Sometimes life becomes too stressful and chaotic to see your gifts and purpose. My role is to strive in helping you meet your counseling goals, to live the healthy and balanced you are envisioning for the future.

Therapy can be tremendously rewarding, however it is real work. If you are committed to the process, it can be a deeply enriching and liberating process, with a satisfactory outcome. What you put into this experience is what you take away from it. Know that throughout your process, I will be there to guide and support by offering insights and tools to assist you in coping and overcoming obstacles.

While I am supportive and caring, I will not tolerate any abusive language related to Black, Indigenous, People of Color, any member of the LGBTQI+ Community. I will not tolerate denigration of any culture, religion, ability level, or ethnicity, or political affiliation. Hate cannot abide within the boundaries of our professional therapeutic relationship.

With almost 10 years of experience as a mental health therapist, I can help you work towards actualizing your goals, to live a more fulfilled life. Together we can help you get back on track so you can live the life you visualize for yourself , and want to support you as you work towards feeling your utmost best.

Thank you, looking forward to our working together.

Johnie is exactly what I needed in my life. She cares, is attentive, helps me talk through multiple possible solutions. Johnie encourages me and helps me foster the strength to be the best person that I can be all while unpacking the trauma.

Johnie is a wonderful thereapist, and really just a great fit for me personally as well. She gives me space to explore things on my own time and at my own speed, gentling guiding and supporting me without pushing "breakthroughs" or forcing me to explore a subject I don't want to. She recommends articles, books, and podcasts that I might find helpful and really understands what I want out of therapy, and provides it. She has such a subtle way of guiding and advising that I'll feel like I did basically all the talking, but somehow wound up clarifying my thoughts and figuring out the best steps to take, without feeling pushed. She's great at helping me see what's been there all along, and helping me figure out how to stay true to myself when dealing with difficult people, and gives me a lot of confidence in my feelings and my choices. I am very grateful to have found her!

Johnie is the absolute best! I have never been in counseling/therapy before and was a bit hesitant, but Johnie took care of that hesitancy almost instantly. She is very good at what she does and I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Written on Mar 29, 2021 after therapy with Johnie for 6 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, lgbt, relationship issues, trauma and abuse, intimacy-related issues, and self esteem

I have really enjoyed working with Johnie. She truly listens and cares, and is very supportive. It's so nice to have a therapist that feels like an old friend, while also maintaining professional boundaries. I was skeptical of video/distanced counseling at first. But we adapt to the times we are in. Johnie makes it feel comfortable and casual, even through a screen.

Johnie is the best counselor I could have ever been matched with. It was truly a blessing. She helped me through some of the hardest transformations in my life and taught me to believe in myself and cherish my life. She saw so many different versions of me and embraced every part. I don’t think I would be the same person I am today without her. Johnie is the kindest, humorous and most gentle person.

I can’t praise Johnie Souza enough, really I need to thank the platform that BetterHelp has created to bring such skilled, professional and compassionate therapists in the field to those of us that really need them. I’m confident I wouldn’t have found as good of a match on my own for years and years if not ever had I not been paired up with Johnie. She is attentive, fun, insightful, and very skilled at identifying and responding to me and her resourceful nature and openness has helped me finally face issues I’ve not even felt safe thinking about enough to articulate them. She wonderful, such hard worker and I’m forever grateful to have access to such quality help with such ease.

After working with a handful of other therapists both off and on this platform, I am so grateful I met Johnie. Her investment, compassion, and care for my mental health has helped me immensely - she is always quick to reply, happy to push up a session when something emotional has happened, remembers the details of our previous talks, gives me the safe space to be completely myself, offers a wide array of solutions to problems, and always follows up on them. She truly cares about my progress and about me, even when I don’t care about myself. Thank you, Johnie!

Johnie is so compassionate and relatable. She connected with me immediately. I'm grateful to have had her as an advocate in my corner. She had to temporarily step down from counseling for family reasons, but I would have continued seeking her support and wisdom indefinitely. I wouldn't hesitate to work with her again. She was a Godsend during a very difficult time.

I was in a really bad place and started off rocky with Johnie, all of this being my own fault. I told Johnie my fears, anxieties, and my tendencies to run when times get tough. We had a really good heart to heart conversation about my needs and I instantly felt more trust with her our first live sessions really solidified our relationship and gave me the trust I needed to be honest enough to really dig deep. She offers tons of worksheets and information and responds very quickly! She is such a good fit for this toe of counseling and I'm very glad to have found her!!

I got turned onto BetterHelp from Tom Bilyeu's 'Impact Theory' and decided to give it a shot. I had been looking around at local therapist offices to attend a session in person originally but decided to give BetterHelp a try, largely due to convenience, but it's also a great price for the help and services you can receive.

Although I originally wanted a male therapist, I am very happy that there weren't any currently available in my state and that I got matched with Johnie. We've had 2 sessions already and it really has already started helping me get through these tough times and see the light at the other side.

I do not regret that decision and plan on continuing to use the service regularly.
