About Me

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker licensed in the state of Missouri with over 22 years of experience as a psychotherapist. I have worked with clients of every age and diagnosis, but most of my experience is in the areas of relational issues, depression, anxiety, parenting difficulties, and life changes. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Baylor University and my Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Tennessee. I've been married for 28 years, and I have four children ranging in ages from 11-20. I am currently also teaching Psychology and English at my children's high school.

My therapeutic approach is a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Insight-Oriented Therapy. This just means that we will set realistic, measurable goals and explore them in an environment of encouragement, support, acceptance, and consistency. We will develop your treatment goals suited to your specific needs and desires. My hope is that counseling will empower you to accomplish your therapeutic goals and continue to do so long after your therapy ends.

The decision to pursue counseling can be a difficult one, but I believe you'll be glad you did. I've seen many people helped throughout the years, and my belief is that you will be, too.

Jon has been very patient with me and gives positive feedback on each session. Often he gives specific things he wants me to work on in between sessions that I can do or keep in mind, which helps me towards my goals faster. He always reminds me how he is available in between sessions and encourages writings to him for any reason.

My significant other, encouraged me to use this app after the many times I expressed to her I’ve always wanted to speak to a counselor. I was timid at first but when I was paired with Jon, from the first video session I was put at ease. Now a few months later I’ve learned so much and am able to impart some of what I’ve learned with others around me. When talking to my significant other and her experience with her counselor on the app, it took her a few tries to find a good fit whereas I found a good fit with Jon on my first try. His approach to issues I face is great and it’s good to get to the core of some the issues. Working with Jon has been a great learning experience. He has taught me a lot about the thoughts I have about myself, other people, and what I can do to begin to understand things that are true and important. Jon gives me practical ways to apply his help that include journaling, practice, and being mindful of certain thoughts. All of these tools help my anxiety directly and allow me to progress better than I have in past therapy experiences.
