About me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Louisiana with 15 years of experience in the counseling discipline. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of New Orleans in 2005 and subsequently completed my Master of Science in Education in Rehabilitation & Mental Health Counseling from Hofstra University on Long Island, NY in 2008.

I've been licensed as a mental health professional since 2011 and have extensive experience working with a broad array of mental health concerns. These include working in private practice, non-profit psychiatric rehabilitation, vocational rehabilitation, and managed care. I am skilled with working with adults as well as families and couples dealing with everything from adjustment-related difficulties coping with change to severe and persistent mental illness including psychosis, panic disorders, and serious mood disorders. I also have specialized training related to employment and career counseling needs as well as issues related to co-occurring physical disabilities and illness.

I typically take a person-centered approach emphasizing mutually agreed upon goals and working together on achieving specific objectives aimed towards making progress towards these goals. I believe a compassionate, understanding, and non-judgmental approach is important to establishing trust and helping you to move forward on the path of wellness.

Demeanor is fairly reserved, and temperament is even. Seems open to personalized approaches to therapy and does not rely on a single standardized method of counseling. Willing to work for solutions at a variety of angles and see things from different perspectives. Respectful of patients' perspectives and vantagepoints, and does not prioritize being right. Good at recognizing psychological pitfalls and identifying underlying causes of long-term problems.

Great guy and understands what I’m trying to accomplish with my therapy

I’ve had the pleasure of having Joshua as my therapist for over four years now and together we have done some groundbreaking work on me. But the best thing about him is that he is such a kind soul.

Throughout the sessions, he has gently guided me through as life has happened to me: some times we talk about the day, other times we discuss core issues and dig deep into my mess. It’s where the conversation goes and what I feel like I am able to share on the day. Never more than what I feel comfortable with, always.

It is always done gently and focused but kindly and wisely, with great respect. It has been very helpful to sit with a person who can be kind, respectful and knowledgeable with you when you are being as vulnerable as you are in therapy.

One of my favourite things about the structure of better help and my time with Joshua is the fact that I can send him voice notes in between the sessions, or if I am unable to fit in a session due to my schedule.

Being able to share my thoughts and feelings as they happen adds another level to the process of therapy, that I have benefitted from tremendously. Getting the chance to articulate my feelings and thoughts, then and there, have been beyond helpful, not only to look back on before the upcoming session, but also for me to understand what’s going on and sharing those realisations with Joshua. It leaves the sessions times to build further on where I am right now, instead of recapping.

Being able to communicate in voice notes has been a great help for me with my dyslexia and I have felt very included in being able to interact that way. This app is really helpful and offers diverse ways of communicating with your therapist.

The flexibility of the app and who Joshua is as a therapist has been just what I needed to continuously keep up with my therapy sessions.

I have had many therapists over the years and he is amongst the top ones. I could highly recommend him.
