About Me

Hi,
I am a practicing Licensed Professional Counselor for the past 20 years and have over 30 years working in the mental health field. My experience ranges from working on inpatient psychiatric units and in crisis counseling programs, to providing individual and family therapy. My therapeutic approach is always person centered, strengths based and goal oriented. Whether you are having a crisis in your life, have suffered a loss, are adjusting to changing situations in your life, or are just wanting to be happier and feel better about yourself, I can help you.

I have a passion for helping the LBGTQ community, be that helping someone through the coming out process, improve family relationships and develop healthy confidence and self-esteem in a culture that is still sometimes condemning and unsupportive. I like to help family members of LGBTQ folks better understand and improve ways of showing loving support and overcoming any obstacles to being supportive.

Another population that I have a passion for helping is Highly Sensitive People. Many people get diagnosed with major mental illnesses due to their symptoms of having difficulty coping with a stressful and chaotic world. Highly Sensitive people, and introverts, are often misunderstood and criticized for being themselves and end up feeling like something is wrong with them, when, in fact, they may just have traits that need to be understood, honored and respected. Our culture tends to value extroversion and toughness, and yet sensitives and introverts are some of the most creative, artistic, kind and empathetic people on the planet. Sensitivity and introversion are not problems or things to change, explain or defend. They are wonderful traits that you can understand better and therefore develop greater confidence and ways of communicating your needs and feelings. If you wonder if you are a Highly Hi Sensitive person, Google search Highly Sensitive Person self test and check out Elaine Aron’s work online. Related to Highly Sensitive People, is High Functioning Autism Spectrum folks, which is also a population I have much compassion for and find great joy in helping.

I often like to help people develop deeper insights and understanding of their unique personality, and using such insight to improve communication, relationships and life choices. I frequently work with people on knowing and understanding their personality typology (based on Carl Jung’s work and Myers Briggs test) and will link you to free and reliable online tests to get the information you need to better understand yourself and how you fit with other personality types. This kind of insight therapy will help you throughout your life rather than just focusing on addressing the issues of today.

If you can relate to any of this information, I may be the perfect therapist for you and would love to work with you!
-Julie

Julie has been amazing! To have a counselor willing to take time to learn about my personality and self without judgement is life changing! They are thoughtful, accepting, and patience. I’ve done therapy before but Julie makes me feel heard and understood when I share life experiences and traumatic life events. They don’t shy away from the hard questions and make sure I am ok after a challenging session before ending it. 15/10 would recommend Julie!

Julie has helped support me in answering questions that I didn’t even realize I was asking with my thoughts and behaviors. I can’t say enough about how much I appreciate her. Completely genuine and experienced, 15/10 would recommend every time.

Julie makes me think and ponder about things I didn't even know were in my head! She pays attention, she listens and she gets me. I couldn't ask for anyone better!

Julie has created the space for me to share when I need it and has been very understanding when my schedule prevents any communication. She has been flexible and always responds even when I am just looking for someone to vent to.

Julie is the best therapist I have ever had. I am making breakthroughs I never thought I would make. I am seeing results in a matter of a couple weeks. It is obvious that she cares. She is articulate, communicative, and intuitive. She helps me come to in depth understandings of my needs. After talking to her for a couple days all my apprehension to use Better Help was gone. I am a dip my toes in kind of person but with Julie I jumped and she has done an amazing job and I cannot wait to see what’s to come. I cannot even stress this enough. Julie is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!

Julie is absolutely amazing! Almost every time we talk, I actually leave the conversation feeling positive, hopeful, and determined. Julie helped me find that by encouraging, supporting, and validating me, my parts, and my experiences. I still have a long way to go, and paying for therapy with no steady income is hard, but I am confident that she can help me learn to navigate and manage my C-PTSD/Complex trauma, and other comorbid disorder(s).

I’ve really enjoyed my therapy with Julie. It hasn’t been long, but I feel my eyes have already been opened to looking at certain situations in a better light. My shoulders feel a little less heavy. I am excited to keep working through my issues because I feel Julie truly cares & wants to show me the best ways to navigate through my life hurdles :)
