Hi,
I am a practicing Licensed Professional Counselor for the past 20 years and have over 30 years working in the mental health field. My experience ranges from working on inpatient psychiatric units and in crisis counseling programs, to providing individual and family therapy. My therapeutic approach is always person centered, strengths based and goal oriented. Whether you are having a crisis in your life, have suffered a loss, are adjusting to changing situations in your life, or are just wanting to be happier and feel better about yourself, I can help you.
I have a passion for helping the LBGTQ community, be that helping someone through the coming out process, improve family relationships and develop healthy confidence and self-esteem in a culture that is still sometimes condemning and unsupportive. I like to help family members of LGBTQ folks better understand and improve ways of showing loving support and overcoming any obstacles to being supportive.
Another population that I have a passion for helping is Highly Sensitive People. Many people get diagnosed with major mental illnesses due to their symptoms of having difficulty coping with a stressful and chaotic world. Highly Sensitive people, and introverts, are often misunderstood and criticized for being themselves and end up feeling like something is wrong with them, when, in fact, they may just have traits that need to be understood, honored and respected. Our culture tends to value extroversion and toughness, and yet sensitives and introverts are some of the most creative, artistic, kind and empathetic people on the planet. Sensitivity and introversion are not problems or things to change, explain or defend. They are wonderful traits that you can understand better and therefore develop greater confidence and ways of communicating your needs and feelings. If you wonder if you are a Highly Hi Sensitive person, Google search Highly Sensitive Person self test and check out Elaine Aron’s work online. I also enjoy and have experience working with Autism Spectrum folks.
I like to help people develop deeper insights and understanding of their unique personality, and using such insight to improve communication, relationships and life choices. I frequently work with people on knowing and understanding their personality typology (based on Carl Jung’s work and Myers Briggs test) and will link you to free online tests to get the information you need to better understand yourself and how you fit with other personality types. This kind of insight therapy will help you throughout your life rather than just focusing on addressing the issues of today.
If you can relate to any of this information, I may be a great therapy fit for you and would love to work with you.
-Julie

One of the many things that I appreciate about working with Julie is that I feel comfortable approaching subjects that I previously have not been able to really navigate at all, and I didn't realize how much that mattered to me in getting to understand my trauma and move through it. Julie has made it possible for me to face some of the things that have felt pretty untouchable and risky to examine, and to feel safe going there even if it does become difficult for me, I know she has a way of proactively checking in about how I'm doing, and helping me understand my own needs and boundaries by asking great questions and making space for what I'm going through and feeling. She has a really great way of being available and gently directive of the session (which I need!), so her finesse with managing that and being sensitive to what I have asked about- needing help addressing and understanding things that I usually avoid- it's really helped me improve my life and I appreciate her skills and her sensitivities, she is a great therapist.

My counseling experience with Julie has changed my life for the better! Mainly, it is a huge relief and really has helped build my self-esteem to have a secure relationship with someone where I am allowed to be the very worst version of myself and she still cares about me and respects me. She never makes me feel ashamed or rejected if I'm not where I would like to be, which allows me to feel comfortable enough to push myself toward change when I'm ready. Through our relationship, I have accepted and learned to even celebrate parts of myself that I spent years trying to change/hide. It is so liberating! I wish everyone had experiences like this with therapists, but it can be hard to find someone who is a good match like I feel like Julie has been for me. I really value that Julie is able to treat me with unconditional positive regard and our connection feels very genuine and reciprocal, which gives it meaning for me. I wouldn't have liked a therapist who was more "directive" or "top-down," always guiding me on what to do and discuss next as we work to fix my problems. Julie helps steer when I'm wandering blindly in the desert, but she mainly lets me be in the driver's seat, which I really respect and appreciate. Thank you for all you do, Julie.

Julie has been such a powerful and supportive voice in my journey through alcoholism, depression and shame. She is so validating and listens to my issues without giving me tons of advice or short term "fixes" to my problems.
I believe that anyone who has issues like mine or is an HSP would greatly benefit from her kind and validating approach. She also gives me a whole hour of counseling, where other Better Help therapists cut my time short or were always late.

So far, Julie and I have had four video therapy sessions together. I am so grateful to have her as my therapist. Julie is a wonderful listener and is helping me immensely in my search to find greater compassion/love/forgiveness for myself. I find Julie to be very easy to relate to, and as a result, I find myself smiling and laughing during our sessions, which is very refreshing: therapy is necessary for me, but it doesn't have to be completely serious, it should be fun and enjoyable as well.

Julie is absolutely wonderful. Professionally speaking, she is always on time and starts the session focused and picks up where we left off the prior session. There is never an adjustment period needed. She creates a therapy plan that fits each individual client instead of basing every client on a single therapy method. Personally, she is so easy to talk to, truly pays attention, and pulls things out by asking questions in a very empathetic and curious way. She is an interactive therapist (which I LOVE) that doesn't just sit back and listen but engages in the journey with you. I can't say enough wonderful things about Julie, I recommend her to my own friends and family all the time!

Julie is an incredible counselor. They're intelligent and empathetic. They've helped me to understand my own thought processes and trauma processing and given thoughtful and impactful feedback during our sessions.
I've tried counseling a few times in the past and it was never a good fit. Julie is the first counselor I've encountered that hasn't made me feel like my traumas and problems are all self-inflicted or that simply changing a single habit will make things all better.
I feel very lucky to have found them.
