Throughout my experience, my clients have struggled with fear of the unknown; had difficulty getting started or knowing where to begin; have experienced uncertainty about a new life phase or change, whether expected or unexpected; and have questioned their purpose, goals, roles, or relationships; and ultimately we walked together as they found empowerment and strategies to overcome these challenges. My intention is to help you do the same.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas with ten years experience in a variety of roles helping families through parenting issues, and three years of dedicated counseling experience specifically focusing on clinical issues. I received my M.Ed. in Human Development Counseling from Vanderbilt University in 2016, and made a career change to become a counselor. While I have spent time as an administrator and consultant in mental health facilities, my clinical counseling focus is anxiety/ depression, motivational issues, parenting struggles, trauma and PTSD, family issues, and substance abuse and recovery. Within my experience as a substance abuse counselor, I have worked with veterans, other counselors, individuals, groups, and families to understand, approach, and maintain a life of recovery. Having provided therapy and administrative services in the world of adolescent mental health, I have significant experience helping parents to understand and empower their child through difficult times. Through counseling and consultation, I have also provided workshops and trainings for business professionals looking to improve the effectiveness of and cohesion in their professional team.
My approach combines a person-centered approach with cognitive and reality therapy in order to let you be the expert about your life. My goal is to understand where you feel "stuck," help you to envision what you want for your life and where you're trying to go, collaborate with you to develop the necessary steps, and provide the counseling along the way to help you achieve your vision.

Best. Counseling. Ever. I have tried so many people over the years and no one has taken me on with as much grace and kindness as she has. No judgment. Constant support. I tell anyone who will listen how much I love this service in the hopes that others will get lucky and match with a wonderful professional such as Kara. I am so happy and blessed to include this app and my counselor in my support network.
Attentive and asks very thought provoking questions.
She is very proactive in working with me through my thoughts and feelings and provides insight that has helped me learn new coping strategies. She's gives great resource when applicable. She has allowed me to lead the conversation but is not afraid to step in when I'm unsure which direction to take. She is amazing!
Kara has helped me through a pretty big breaking point in my life. I had struggled with depression for so long and didn’t know how to battle it. She has given me the tools to gain back my self-confidence and self-love. I’d highly recommend her to anyone that is seeking counseling.
Kara is tuned in to my needs and preferences. She really listens and provides thoughtful input.
She has been understanding and gentle. I would recommend a friend or family member to speak to her.
She is wonderful to speak to and make suggestions when asked to help improve myself.
I sought counseling services because I felt emotionally wrecked and overwhelmingly anxious and depressed after experiencing family tragedy and general career and relationship dissatisfaction. Kara is different from other therapists I've tried in the past--in a good way. She holds space to recognize my immediate emotional needs and just talk through an issue, while also offering research-based solutions and next steps for me to think about. I love that she always gives me options for ways to move forward or ideas for me to focus on before our next session, so that I have ownership and control over my mental and emotional growth and well being. Kara is empathetic while still being matter of fact. I would absolutely recommend her to a friend. Even in a few short sessions I already feel like I've made important gains towards a calmer and more positive attitude.
Kara is thoughtful and responsive. She went out of her way to check in on me if she didn’t hear from me for awhile.
Kara is blunt, analytical and educated. She has been very helpful.
Kara is great! She asks enough questions to figure out where to begin and how to lead you in the right direction!
