Hi and welcome! My name is Karin Johnson and I want to thank you for visiting my page. Reaching out for help is always a challenging, but important step, and I am glad you've taken that step!
First, let me introduce myself to you... I received my undergraduate degree in Social Work from Arizona State University and received my Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I have worked with individuals, couples, families, and groups of all age ranges. My style is warm, empathic, and non-judgmental. I want you to feel comfortable working with me. My counseling style is relaxed and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion.
My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, strength-based modalities, solution-focused counseling, psychoeducation, trauma-informed care, and mindfulness practices. I look to highlight a person’s strengths and their positives in their lives, and to work through personal difficulties and together, overcome life’s challenges to reach your goals. My role is to assist you in developing the needed skills and confidence to live your life to the fullest. Some of these skills may include improving communication, understanding healthy boundaries, and developing good relationships. I like to set practical goals with you, to help make changes in your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that solve problems. I will provide resources and worksheets as needed, so you can continue to focus on your growth outside of messaging or our live sessions. If you want support to start addressing the issues that are holding you back and causing you discomfort, then I would really like to start working with you.

Karin, she is so amazing, a life saver for me. She really listens without judgement, ever. Karin never hesitates to assist with tools I can use to better myself and if she doesn’t have the tools she will find them. I was totally afraid of therapy not that long ago, so grateful to the Betterhelp team and Karin!!

Karin Johnson is a wonderful therapist. Not only is she incredibly knowledgeable but she is also open to learn about concepts, and processes she isn't familiar with. For example, I talk to her about the stresses of creating a comic book on your own. She may not be familiar with the struggles herself but she listens and shows true interest in the process in order to provide helpful insights on ways to work through and manage my stress.

I have been to a number of therapists over the years and viewed it as a joke and junk science before I found Karin. O_M_G!!! Karin has helped me more than I can put into words. In this short time, she has helped me look at everything through a whole new lens! Issues that once felt impossible to overcome are now barely speed bumps! Karin is very responsive to my messages, and we have great sessions, where I feel like I'm talking to a friend. Right now she's trying to get a broader picture of my past so it's a lot of memory backtracking, but she's listens and supplies valuable feedback to questions I've had about my past experiences. She sends out weekly messages that go over an important mental health topic, and a worksheet to go along with them. These help stimulate the conversation or simply add to the session.

WOW! Karin is awesome. Easy to talk too and down to earth. She has given me a very objective view on my thoughts and feelings. I would recommend her to anyone. My personal suggestion though, if you are experiencing dating issues, relationship issues, and personal reflection issues with respect to dating and relationships, Karin is the person you want. Usually writing is my expertise but when it comes to these things I'm just so bad haha. All I can say is you can put your trust in Karin. Trust is a fragile thing nowadays and with all the movies nowadays about crazy therapist villains maybe we don't really want to seek help anymore. I’ve been wanting to reach out for therapy for years now, and by the time I felt I really needed it, we were in a global pandemic.
I thought that the process would be very gradual and lengthy, but we jumped right in without hesitation, which was really nice. She’s a great listener and truly shows that she cares about you and your life. Her schedule is often very flexible so I can chat with her whenever I feel it’s necessary. She always replies within a few hours if it isn’t urgent and always has helpful things to say. It’s only been a few works and overall she is a very uplifting support system to me. Reaching out was exactly what I’ve been needing all this time and Karin has truly made my first experience an amazing one!

Karen is incredible. I was so hesitant to try BetterHelp because I have had bad experiences with telecommunication therapy in the past. This wasn’t the case with Karen. She listens, remembers and provides insights or suggestions catered to my individual growth. I came to her at my lowest and I am proud to say I am starting to slowly feel like myself again. Personally, I tend to have negative voice that criticizes me, Karen does an amazing job building me up and reminding me of my self worth. That’s been critical in helping mute that nasty internal feedback. Since starting Better Help, I have also gotten my sister to sign up. Mental health wasn’t prioritized in my family growing up, I’m proud to say we’re prioritizing it now.
