About me

I am a certified licensed clinical social worker with a master’s degree from Albany State University of New York State. I have a master’s degree in counseling from St. Lawrence University from Canton, New York. I am married and the mother of two adult children. I have worked in agency settings and private practice for over 27 years. I have been in private practice providing individual psychotherapy with adolescents and adults, couples counseling and family therap. I use a variety of techniques in therapy, trying to find what will work best for you. These techniques are likely to include dialogue, interpretation, cognitive reframing, awareness and self-monitoring exercises, relaxation techniques, mindfulness work and journal writing. Approaching feelings or thoughts that you may have tried to avoid for a long time or recent painful experiences can be painful and scary and my goal is to provide you a confidential, supportive and non-judgmental space for you to explore these feelings and life experiences.
My counseling style is warm and inviting. I believe in the importance of treating each and every person with respect, dignity, sensitivity, and compassion. I don't believe in stigmatizing labels and passing judgment. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, person-centered, and psychodynamic counseling. My plan is to tailor our conversation and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.

My areas of specialization and expertise include individual therapy for both men and women, couples and family therapy. I have extensive experience working with a cognitive behavioral approach for anxiety and depression, adjustment, transition and relationship issues.
Clinical approaches:
Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Years of Experience: since 1993
The first step in therapy is acknowledging a problem or concern and wanting to become better with professional guidance and support. If you are ready to take that step then I am here to support and empower you every step of the way.
It would be my pleasure and honor to support you at this time in your life. I look forward to getting to know you and working with you.

Kathy

Katherine is OUTSTANDING at her job. I had been in therapy for the past 6 years and she entered my life at the 5 year mark. In just a year the transformation I under went truly changed my life. She listens, ACTIVELY listens. Can understand what it is that her client needs and helps guide them through ALL the emotions, all the feelings. If you suffer from depression or anxiety, or ptsd, this woman is IT. She does her job WELL. I cannot thank her enough, honestly and truly.
