I am a licensed professional counselor licensed in Texas with over 20 years of experience working as a therapist. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, family issues and ADHD. I have worked in a variety of settings, including community mental health, a pain management clinic, and primarily private practice, so I have a wide range of experience.
My counseling style is supportive and non-judgmental. I believe in treating anyone with respect and compassion, and I believe that my role is to question and guide, not to make decisions for you. My approach combines a basis of client centered therapy with a variety of cognitive-behavioral techniques. Of course, treatment is collaborative and will be tailored for your specific needs.
Change is difficult, but can be very rewarding. I am looking forward to supporting you as you move forward.

She is great! Listens to my concerns and teaches me new tools
More than ever I need to see how to help myself with help to get my life back together and it seems to be working

Kathleen is professional, empathetic and provides advice that also helps you grow as a person by facing your old traumas.
I really enjoy having the time to talk to someone who listens to my problems and issues I have with life. She gives good advice when needed and is always polite and smiling.
Kathleen made my first time stepping into therapy feel so comfortable, even over the phone, she was able to offer me a safe place to open up! She checks in regularly and that makes me feel like she genuinely wants to help me understand myself.
Roses, simply Roses.
I’ve been seeing Kathleen for a month-ish now, and she truly has been what I needed. I needed someone to hear me and understand what I’m feeling. She has taken the time to get to know me and my situation. Grief is hard and she made dealing with a little bit easier to deal with
Kathleen has been a huge help! She’s very attentive and sends me information to help me with tools to understand and handle what I’m dealing with
Kathleen has been so helpful since I started therapy, and she goes the extra mile.
Kathleen is one of the most down to earth and honest therapists I’ve been to. She provides a kind ear and wise advise that allows me to feel my feelings and make educated choices moving forward. I would highly recommend her to everyone.
I appreciate Kathleen so much. She never let me diminish the other, yet made me feel understood and able to understand myself better. Really easy to be open and trust her completely. Texted useful information too.
Kathleen offers pertinent feedback and keeps the conversation flowing so there aren’t any awkward silences. I highly recommend her.
Amazing work from an amazing person
I feel a sense of relief
Kathleen has helped me in what’s seemed to be the hardest and darkest times of my life. Her expertise and words of wisdom have been nothing short of a blessing.
Just off of the 3 sessions I've had with Kathleen, I can see how much she cares about my feelings and how emotionally empathetic she is. She's absolutely what I need right now after everything that I've been dealt
Kathleen is very helpful, she lets you speak and doesn't say anything until you're done speaking, she never interrupts me and always listens
I’ve only been with Kathleen a few days and I’m blown AWAY!!! She is so responsive and understanding and we haven’t even had our first meeting yet over the phone but I feel like this is the best way to convey all your background before meeting to get into the nitty gritty and she’s even helping me with things which I didn’t really expect to happen within the first few messages. Thank you Kathleen!!!! You’re great!!!
Kathleen is very supportive and a good listener. I'm glad she's my therapist.
Kathleen is absolutely wonderful and has helped me so much. I’m extremely grateful for her
She’s been fantastic
Was very patient with me when I was going through my hardest moments in my life. Will sy the truth no matter what and offered me plenty of ways to cope with my anxiety and ohter issues .
Kathleen has helped me come so far with my mental health. She had taught me coping skills, ways to calm down my temper, and communication skills. I would highly recommend Kathleen to anyone.
I’ve been in treatment with Kathy for almost a month and it’s incredible how far she’s guided my journey towards healing with a steady hand. It amazes me how it’s been less than a month since I made a list of my criteria in a counselor’s capabilities as I registered with Better Help after being referred by a Cancer Survivor Mental Health line.
In my 40 years, I’ve seen a handful of well trained counselors - all who sent me spiraling.
Those who experienced years of excessive childhood - or adulthood- trauma, the innocent who were left scarred with Complex PTSD understand the challenging dynamics of its impact on choosing the right counselor. Kathy understands this, too.
I remember sitting and staring at the registration form discouraged and doubtful. The memory is almost sensory - If I reach out in front of me, I feel like I can almost touch it. Taste it. I asked myself, how could one counselor help someone with my type of PTSD? Who also suffers from Bipolar? With panic disorder and ADD, chronic addiction, and who recently ended treatment for cancer that required hospitalization throughout most of the illness? Certainly I won’t find them on this site.
But I was wrong. Each morning over the past month, the sunrise seems brighter than the last. When I look in the mirror these days, I see a version of myself living in the future, not one who is bogged down from the past. Every day, I make steps towards making that future mean something. A future that is better not just for me but better for the future versions of me, those who are suffering from the pains of not being heard or treated for mental illness alongside their cancer while hospitalized. Those who need to be protected and saved. Those who need to be heard.
I have faith that Kathy has the tools to get me there. She’s gotten me this far.
Kathleen listens to me and gives me perspectives that make see things in a different way. She instantly made me feel better and like things will get better
Kathy is patient and understanding. We have a different perspective on the world, but she is open minded and listens and adapts her feedback in a way where I can be receptive to it.
I’ve only seen her 2x so far but she’s very attentive and I enjoy speaking with her
Kathleen has been an amazing resource that I am so glad I treated myself to. She keeps me focused on my long-term goals while also helping with daily struggles. I've been under the care of a lot of mental health professionals and Kathleen has already taken me further than they did - and she's doing it at my pace. I could not recommend Kathleen enough. Everyone needs a Kathleen in their lives.
She’s been helpful during tough times
Attentive, listens to your needs, provides great information
she listen very carefully and let me talk
I like how she also texts me between video call appointments.
I didn’t think after just a month that I would be able to see a difference in how I feel on a daily basis things are still tough I know this is still early but Kathleen have me hope that I’m the right path and she is giving me tools to help me navigate when things are bad
Kathleen Petrak, LPC, helps to create a calm and sympathetic environment for expression. I feel respected and that my perspective and experiences are valid, while simultaneously being offered opportunities for growth.
Kathleen checks on me, see how I am doing. Her advice is always on point and I do not get bored in our interactions.
I would highly recommend Kathleen. She listens and provides excellent counsel to help me through my issues. I’ve truly started to find myself again and live. I couldn’t be happier!
Kathy is great. I appreciate her expertise and how she checks in on me between appointments. Really easy to talk to.
I am so glad I found Kathleen. She is attentive, organized, and has helped me so much in goal setting, making connections between common issues, and sorting out my feelings. We've run the gambit, switching between work issues, personal trauma, relationship issues, and food issues. She is a great listener, but also pushed me to become a better version of myself. After about 2 months of meeting weekly, I'm happy to say that I see our client relationship being very long term.
