Kathryn Starratt

(MSW, LICSW)

About Me

I am Kathryn Starratt and I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in New Hampshire. I have over twenty years of experience working with a variety of people, including adults, couples, families, adolescents, children and groups. My professional growth has been advised by my work in Emergency Services, Community Mental Health and work with families formed from adoption and foster care.

Whether working with families or individuals, I provide a non-judgmental, caring, safe and respectful environment for individuals to find their authentic self. I have a firmly held belief that each person is a thoroughly unique being with potential for remarkable growth. I believe in a person-centered approach and have time, and time again, seen the resilience of spirit in people who have honored me with their trust and vulnerability.

I believe that 100% of people could benefit from counseling at some point in their life. Traumatic events, loss, relationship issues, work stress, family conflict, and life transitions can be just some of the shared experiences in life that cause stress, anxiety and depression. How we experience these events is unique to us as individuals. Therapeutic approaches can include strength-based modalities, cognitive behavioral approaches, solution focused therapy, psychoeducation, trauma focused therapy as well as life experience informed common sense. And one should never ignore the benefits of generous amounts caring and humor.

I am eager to journey with you on your path of discovery and healing!

Kathryn always responds to me promptly, is very kind and always reaches out to me if I don't message her for a little while. She always checks in on me and sends me kind words. I was skeptical that therapy was for me and had bad prior experiences. She has changed that view for me and made my latest experience a positive one. I’m thankful for her services and would recommend her to anyone I know.

Kathryn is my second counselor on BetterHelp and I’m so pleased I’ve gotten to work with someone who is so open and understanding of my difficulties with this world. She listens, treats me with the utmost respect and I’m truly thankful and grateful that I get to work with her. 1000/10 would recommend

I have been remiss in using the site and she has been wonderful at staying in touch anyway. When we spoke, I knew she was a great fit for me and I really want to use this program more because I really believe it will help.

I am really happy with Kathryn - she found a great way to interact with me and realized I like direct and doesn’t pull punches. She holds me accountable and helps me with coping and understanding others. We are still in the muck and mire and she’s patient and understanding.

Kathryn Is very kind in her words and you can tell that she cares. She has asked me question that have made think and actually realize things about issues I’ve had. She also does not push me to talk if I do not want to or if I’m busy with life.

Kathryn has helped me put the pieces of my mental health back together. As an educator in 2020 I wanted to climb into the deepest hole and never return. She has given me back my soul as both a teacher and a father!

Kathryn is wonderful! She responds quickly, and she’s so easy to talk to. I had reservations about teletherapy, and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to truly open up over the phone. But Kathryn’s easygoing energy and expertise has made a positive impact on my life, and now I look forward to our sessions.

She always makes it a point to me my counseling needs whether it's advice on life or just listening to me rant about frustrations. She always makes me feel extremely comfortable and I truly feel that I can talk to her about anything that is troubling me even things that are uncomfortable to talk about.

Written by T.A. on Jun 06, 2020 after counseling with Kathryn for 5 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, addictions, trauma and abuse, eating disorders, self esteem, coping with life changes, and coaching

Kathryn has always been so understanding and attentive to what my needs are. She always has the right thing to say when I’m feeling anxious or unsure about myself. She will listen and more or less pick things apart to get to the root of the problem or why I may be feeling the way I do and help guide me through the process of finding alternative ways to deal with things.

Written by D.E. on Apr 30, 2020 after counseling with Kathryn for 2 months on issues concerning stress, anxiety, family conflicts, trauma and abuse, self esteem, anger management, career difficulties, coping with life changes, and coaching

I have tried 4 different counselors - none of them made me feel comfortable enough to even talk about my feelings. Kathryn is always available and responds within a timely manner. She's easy to talk to, and open up to. She actually reads what I type - and doesn't just ask "how does that make you feel". She makes me think about things differently.

Written by S.O. on Apr 18, 2020 after counseling with Kathryn for 2 months on issues concerning stress, anxiety, relationship issues, family conflicts, trauma and abuse, eating disorders, self esteem, and compassion fatigue

Kathryn and I hit it off right away. I was very skeptical about this and as always not trusting a new therapist. Her personality is warm and sincere. She speaks from the heart and has a sharp sense of humor. She has many life experiences so she can relate to what I m going through. She send me little messages to check in on me which is a lot more than anyone else has ever done for me. I am so grateful I signed up with 'BetterHelp' and that they matched me with Kathryn. Even when I do not contact her, just knowing she's out there helps me through my day.

Love this woman!

She perfectly balances being supportive while also being direct, especially when I'm not able to see when I might be getting in my own way. I am so grateful for her!

Written by M.E. on Jan 24, 2020 after counseling with Kathryn for 2 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, relationship issues, family conflicts, trauma and abuse, grief, intimacy-related issues, sleeping disorders, self esteem, career difficulties, coping with life changes, coaching, and compassion fatigue

Kathryn has helped me through the sudden loss of what I thought would be my dream job and navigated all of the uncertainties that followed. It was overwhelming attempting to cope with the loss while applying for unemployment, medicaid, and new jobs. I recognized I needed to focus on my mental health in order to be successful in my next chapter of life and Kathryn helped me rebuild my self confidence that my previous job knocked down. In between job related stressors she helped me navigate family related stress over the holiday period which unveiled deeper rooted issues in self confidence and self worth. She is prompt to message back, checks in on you if you haven't messaged her in a while, and utilizes humor and personal experience to new situations. She's helped me rewrite my story and enter the next chapter with a better mindset. Better Help was a great resource to have access to mental health during a time of not having health insurance and in today's time of long wait periods to be seen in a traditional clinic. It is nice having sessions in the comfort of your own home and the ability to chat in-between sessions when new things come up. Thank you for being there when I really needed it!
