Katia Gilliam, LPC
About me
Hi, I'm Katia Gilliam, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Georgia and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board for Certified Counselors. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from American International College in Massachusetts.
With over 18 years of experience in the mental health and social services field, I’ve had the privilege of supporting children, teens, adults, and families across a variety of settings—including private practice, crisis intervention, school-based programs, community mental health clinics, detention centers, residential treatment, and social service agencies. My background also includes serving as an admissions program manager, operations manager, school-based therapist, and supervisor for the Department of Children and Families.
As a therapist, I specialize in providing individual therapy and emotional support to those navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship challenges, and behavioral concerns. My therapeutic approach is open-minded, realistic, and grounded in everyday life. I aim to meet clients where they are while helping them explore practical tools and strategies that support meaningful change. I lean on a solution-focused, trauma-informed lens, incorporating evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, and mindfulness.
I strive to create a warm and judgment-free space where clients feel safe, supported, and empowered. Whether you're processing the past or navigating the present, I’m here to help you move forward in a way that feels manageable and authentic to you.
Outside of my work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our three children. I love recharging at the beach and exploring new tropical places—these moments of peace and adventure help keep me grounded and present.
If you’re ready to begin or continue your healing journey, I’m here and honored to be a part of it.
