My name is Kay Adkins and I am a Professional Licensed Counselor (LPC). I started my education at College of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, Missouri where I received my Bachelor of Science in Philosophy/Religion and Psychology. I went on to complete my Master's in Science in Counseling from Missouri State University, Springfield, Missouri. I am trained primarily in Person-Centered Therapy, a client centered approach that allows the client to lead the session.
I have over seven years of experience providing individual, group, and family therapy using Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), components of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), rational perspective, and Solution Focused therapy. I am also finishing up a certificate course in Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). I have experience working in a variety of settings including office and in-home private practice, residential care for adolescents, 7 Day Follow-up, and intensive outpatient within a medical facility. I have worked with a diverse population including children, adults, geriatrics, foster care, low socioeconomic levels, and supporting others with varying disabilities. I have experience working with a wide range of disorders and concerns, including depression, anxiety, life adjustment, daily stress management, childhood trauma, Gay-Lesbian, and self-esteem related concerns.
I trust in my clients and believe that that they can make effective decisions regarding their personal counseling goals and treatment. And I believe that it is up to the client to determine his or her own personal progress and growth according to what is best for the individual. I believe each one of us has the ability to make choices and face challenges, but at times we need a word of encouragement or even a strong nudge to get started. Sometimes we just need one other person to validate, hear, and believe in us. I hope that together we will be able to find the healing, support, and growth you are searching for through counseling.

Kay has been tremendous to work with. She touches base even when we don't have sessions scheduled, she listens to me and provides good strategies for me to use when thinking about my situation.
Kay is always helpful, comes prepared with useful resources and is always very understanding. I always appreciate her feedback and I get a genuine sense that she cares for my progress whenever we speak. Would absolutely recommend.
Kay is a phenomenal counselor! She is a great listener and can lead you through difficult emotions with some great questions and support you through those emotions with really helpful techniques.
Kay is one of the best people that has came along in my life. Just an amazing person. The type of person i would call a friend as well as a therapist. Not another person in the world who I would prefer to talk with over her. Top notch.
Simply put Kay understands me and is open to seeing me for who I am. I feel unbelievably comfortable with her. So much so that I'm open to counseling as needed for the rest of my life with her. I hope she never retires.
Kay is brilliant, resourceful, and caring. Every time we talk I know she has my best interests in mind, and she always has relevant and helpful techniques and advice. Kay is the best part of any week I get to talk with her.
Kay has been a big help in my life. I have enjoyed developing a working relationship with her and feel that she has a strong understanding of how to create incremental positive changes.
Kay is wonderful, she respects me, and encourages me to keep moving forward. I can't imagine how I would feel now if I did not sign up for BetterHelp when I did
Honestly, Kay saved me. I am stronger and more equipped than I have ever been. I couldn't thank her enough. She took me how I was, no judgment. I couldn't do it without her. My only negative thing I have to say is that I'm disappointed she can't be my personal friend to come over and hang out. I wouldn't be here without her.
Kay’s great. It’s early. We’ve only had one session, but this (in conjunction with the messaging through the app) gives me a very positive sense of Kay’s abilities. Looking forward to working with her in the future as I continue to work on my own self development.
Kay is incredibly kind and understanding and helped me through a really tough time.
Kay has been wonderful. I hope I don't disappoint her.
