About me

As a Social Worker (SW), I have 25 years experience. Prior to that, I wore the badge of a policeman for 16 years. As a SW’er, I have worked with families, K-12 kids and adolescents with pending legal issues. The K-12 kids primarily had ADHD, childhood trauma and oppositional attitudes/behaviors. I also worked with all branches of the military, dealing primarily with soldiers and their families who were involved in domestic violence (DV) incidents. Many of these were special forces and green beret soldiers who experienced Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) related to their combat experiences. I also worked for 4 years in in-inpatient psychiatric settings. Before working in clinical settings, I supervised three emergency receiving homes and maintained a counseling office supported by the state’s Baptist Convention.

As far as counseling techniques, that totally depends on the particular need and the mental condition of the client. I like using cognitive-behavioral therapy CBT) to evaluate cognitive distortions of the client and help them to adjust and better cope with their environment. With stronger clients, I won’t hesitate to use Gestalt Therapy to challenge or confront a them. As needed, I also employ grief and relaxation therapies.

Finally, it my viewpoint that most people seek counseling to help them find peace in their lives. My goal is always to help the client gain a sense of peace, which comes from lessening their internal storms.

I almost canceled before I even had my first video because of fear of the unknown. From our first video chat, I realized how remarkable and wise he was/is. He didn’t demean my problems but helped me see a new perspective. He didn’t say “you shouldn’t feel this way”. He offered support and wise counsel.
I’m thankful for his insights and hope to do at least I one more video chat.

I feel like I have made a friend and not just met a “therapist” and that means a lot more now days than people realize.

Real respect for each other and the encouraging of families and friend’s is so needed now days and so important as well as the knowledge it takes sometimes to know HOW to direct someone
to be able to see past the emotions of it all. Otherwise, your just on a constant merry go round and going no where.

Sometimes you just need an ear, not someone to tell you what your doing wrong or even what your doing right. Just an ear.

Sometimes you just need an ear of someone who is NOT involved in the situations at hand that can see things objectively and make clear suggestions that maybe you aren’t able to see because of all the emotions involved.

I also appreciate the fact that Kelly Crow I do believe is a man with Faith in God and faith in people (which is important).

I think he is able to see the potential that is lying underneath all of the mess and clutter in someone, so to speak and encourage that potential and try to bring the potential that is there to the forefront and get their “focus” back on the more important things of life because I do believe you can become what you are “focused” on so it’s important to be focused on the right things in Life, the good things, the things we can be thankful for instead of the mess this world is in. We all need to know that we are here for a purpose and we have the potential to somehow leave this world in better shape someday, a little better than the shape we found it in. So we try to do our best to make a difference, with the time we do have to do that with God’s help.

I believe he does his best to make a difference in lives, no matter how frustrating or how much of an inconvenience it probably seems sometimes.
