About me

I am a mental health counselor licensed in Washington State. I am also a professional writer with experience working as an RN and a creativity and life coach. I love to draw on all of these elements in counseling, as I believe that our mental, physical, and spiritual health are intertwined and we are happiest and healthiest when we pay attention to all three.

My counseling style is open, warm, flexible, and collaborative. I draw on elements of mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, positive psychology, journal therapy, and Emotional Freedom Technique meridian tapping. We'll agree on goals and a treatment plan together, revising as your situation changes.

My specialty areas include:

Depression
Anxiety
Chronic pain
Medical problems
Grief and Loss
Working through challenging life experiences
Creative blocks

Deciding to engage in counseling is a courageous and empowering first step to a happier and more fulfilling life, so I'm glad you've found your way here. I would be honored to travel on this journey with you.

I love working with Kerry; she really helps with challenging my over-thinking and negative thoughts but still makese feel completely validated in what I'm feeling. She gets me to see myself in a whole new and much more confident light and working with her has really improved my overall mental health!

Kerry helps me recognize patterns in situations and my feelings, and provides an external check on the ways I’m thinking about things. She encourages me to take credit for good self-care behavior, and reminds me to be nicer to myself. Her suggestions on self-talk and phrases I can repeat to myself (mantras) are helpful when I’m faced with challenging situations.

I’m very happy I had the opportunity to have Kerry Schafer be my counselor. She was very consistent checking in and holding me accountable with what I what I want on each week. I love how she challenges me in my goals and doesn’t tell me what I want to hear. She validated my feelings and address the issues I have.
