About me

Hello, my name is Kris and I would love to be your therapist. I have been in the mental health field since 2007 and currently serve as an assistant professor at the University of San Diego. I have been teaching and engaging in therapy for several years, primarily focusing on community based mental health. My goals are to help you to be your best you through clarifying your most important needs and improving your support systems.

All of the work we will do is through a lens of multiculturalism. It is important for me to understand who you are as a cultural being so that we can see which of your issues may be structural, societal, or individual. Additionally, this will help us in your treatment planning as we can address issues of access and historical experiences related to race, gender, or sexuality.

I primarily work from two lenses when assisting clients. The first, Relational Cultural Therapy, which says we grow from relationships with other people and experience anxiety when we aren't able to connect to others. The second lens I work through is called Reality Therapy which helps analyze your needs regarding survival, belonging, power, freedom, and fun. From here, we will be able to see where you may be getting your needs met in a less than optimal manner and figure out the next steps. We will be using the WDEP system which stands for Wants, Doing, Evaluation, and Planning to best understand how to move forward after assessing your needs. I'm really looking forward to working with you and hope that we can make progress together.
